BWW Feature: Louisville Theatres Join 'Ghost Light' Project - Long As I Can See The Light

On a rainy January 19, at 5:30 p.m. on the steps in front of Actors Theatre of Louisville, members of the Louisville theatre community took part in launching a nation-wide initiative entitled The Ghost Light Project. Besides Actors Theatre, there were representatives from other local companies such as Kentucky Shakespeare, Looking for Lilith, The Liminal Playhouse, Theatre [502], the University of Louisville's African American Theatre Program, among others.

The Desert Rose Playhouse is participating in 'The Ghostlight Project', on January 19, 2017. In each time zone across the country, members of the theater community from Broadway to regional theaters to high schools and colleges and community theaters will come together to launch THE GHOSTLIGHT PROJECT. Gathering outside of theaters on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, people will join in creating 'light' for the challenging times ahead.

THE GHOSTLIGHT PROJECT (previously announced as 'The Sanctuary Project') will bring the theatre community together from coast to coast on January 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in each time zone to light a light and make a pledge. Inspired by the theatrical tradition of keeping a 'ghost light' on in a darkened theater, we create light for the challenging times ahead.

McCarter Theatre Center Receives NEA Grant for New Play Development

McCarter Theatre Center is a recipient of an Art Works grant of $35,000 to aupport the McCarter LAB, a year-round creative incubator that provides key support to writers at all stages of their careers, cultivating meaningful artistic relationships and original works for McCarter's main stages and future co-productions. National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $30 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major 2017 funding announcement.

Lantern Theater Company Presents the Philadelphia Premiere of Obie and Lucille Lortel Award-Winning AN ILIAD

Lantern Theater Company continues its 2016/17 season with the Philadelphia premiere of An Iliad, written by Lisa Peterson and Tony Award-winning actor Denis O'Hare and based on Robert Fagles' acclaimed translation of Homer's Iliad. M. Craig Getting directs a cast that includes Barrymore Award-winners Peter DeLaurier and Liz Filios; Filios also serves as co-composer, working with sound designer Michael Hahn to create the evocative original music that scores the production. Playwrights Foundation (PF) is pleased to announce the line-up of playwrights for the 2016-2017 Rough Readings Series in partnership with the National Center for New Plays at Stanford University, now in its 11th year. Beginning October 24th and 25th with workshop early draft  readings of ALL FALL DOWN by Lisa Ramirez (PF Resident Playwright), the series continues monthly December 2016 through May 2017 with seven exceptional new works that are pushing into new theatrical territory, challenging assumptions, and presenting deeply felt dilemmas within our culture and world society.

Berkeley Rep Announces Special Presentation of MADWOMAN IN THE VOLVO in the Peet's Theatre

Berkeley Rep today announced that Sandra Tsing Loh's autobiographical narrative, The Madwoman in the Volvo, will be staged as a special presentation in the Peet's Theatre. The three-person show is directed by Berkeley Rep's Associate Director Lisa Peterson, who directed the production's previous runs at South Coast Repertory and Pasadena Playhouse. Performances of The Madwoman in the Volvo begin on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 and run until Sunday, January 15, 2017. Tickets will be available to the general public on Monday, October 10, 2016. Tickets start at $60 and include a beverage.
