Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today casting for the remaining principal roles in its grand-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, featuring Broadway stars Kate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban as Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam. Additional Broadway artists Ali Ewoldt (Tuptim), Alan Ariano (The Kralahome) and Rona Figueroa (Lady Thiang) join the cast, along with Sam Simahk (Lun Tha) and Chicagoland artists Charlie Babbo (Louis Leonowens), Jomar Ferreras (Interpreter), John Lister (Captain Orton), David Parkes (Sir Edward Ramsay), Peter Sipla (Phra Alack) and Matthew Uzarraga (Prince Chulalongkorn). All but Lister make their Lyric debuts with The King and I.
As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this week, Ken Watanabe's return to THE KING AND I has been postponed after recently undergoing endoscopic surgery in Japan. Now we've confirmed with a Lincoln Center representative that he will officially return to THE KING AND I on Thursday, March 17. Hoon Lee, who is currently playing the King of Siam, will play his final performance on Wednesday, March 16.

Producer Scott Rudin has announced plans to bring Harper Lee's classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to Broadway for the 2017-2018 season. Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin will write a new stage adaptation of Lee's novel, and the production will be directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher.
Casting is complete for the Goodman commissioned world premiere of CARLYLE by Thomas Bradshaw, directed by Benjamin Kamine. CARLYLE features an all-Chicago cast with James Earl Jones II in the titular role, joined by Patrick Clear (Janice's Father), Maureen Gallagher (Janice's Mother), Tim Rhoze (CARLYLE's Father), Levenix Riddle (Omar/Tyrone), Tiffany Scott (Janice/Sarah), Charlette Speigner (Anita Hill/Shaniqua) and Nate Whelden (Mark).

Anthony Giardina's Off-Broadway smash hit THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, about a Georgetown political hostess, makes its Washington, D.C. debut at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Following his direction of the 2014 world premiere at Lincoln Center Theater, Tony Award winner Doug Hughes returns to direct this political drama spanning three decades, from Carter's presidency through the Reagan era and ending with Obama's inauguration. The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) is pleased to announce that Kimberly Faith Hickman has accepted the position of artistic director of the Playhouse. Hickman will begin at OCP full time on June 1, 2016 and is filling the position upon the dismissal of OCP's most recent Artistic Director Hilary Adams. Susan Baer Collins, former OCP associate artistic director, has been acting as interim artistic director since last December and she will work with Hickman in the transition.
