Lookingglass to Stage Federico Garcia Lorca's BLOOD WEDDING, 3/2-4/24

?Lookingglass Theatre Company continues its 28th Season with Federico Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding, translated by Michael Dewell and Carmen Zapata, and directed by Ensemble Member Daniel Ostling. Blood Wedding runs March 2 - April 24, 2016 at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson.

Broadway, Chicago Stars Round Out Principal Cast of Lyric Opera's THE KING AND I

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today casting for the remaining principal roles in its grand-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, featuring Broadway stars Kate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban as Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam. Additional Broadway artists Ali Ewoldt (Tuptim), Alan Ariano (The Kralahome) and Rona Figueroa (Lady Thiang) join the cast, along with Sam Simahk (Lun Tha) and Chicagoland artists Charlie Babbo (Louis Leonowens), Jomar Ferreras (Interpreter), John Lister (Captain Orton), David Parkes (Sir Edward Ramsay), Peter Sipla (Phra Alack) and Matthew Uzarraga (Prince Chulalongkorn). All but Lister make their Lyric debuts with The King and I.

UPDATE: Ken Watanabe Will Return to THE KING & I on 3/17 After Surgery Recovery

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this week, Ken Watanabe's return to THE KING AND I has been postponed after recently undergoing endoscopic surgery in Japan. Now we've confirmed with a Lincoln Center representative that he will officially return to THE KING AND I on Thursday, March 17.  Hoon Lee, who is currently playing the King of Siam, will play his final performance on Wednesday, March 16.

All-Chicago Cast Announced for Thomas Bradshaw's CARLYLE World Premiere at Goodman

Casting is complete for the Goodman commissioned world premiere of CARLYLE by Thomas Bradshaw, directed by Benjamin Kamine. CARLYLE features an all-Chicago cast with James Earl Jones II in the titular role, joined by Patrick Clear (Janice's Father), Maureen Gallagher (Janice's Mother), Tim Rhoze (CARLYLE's Father), Levenix Riddle (Omar/Tyrone), Tiffany Scott (Janice/Sarah), Charlette Speigner (Anita Hill/Shaniqua) and Nate Whelden (Mark).

Luis Valdez's VALLEY OF THE HEART Begins Tonight at San Jose Stage Company

On track to be one of San Jose Stage Company's biggest box office hits, VALLEY OF THE HEART, in partnership with El Teatro Campesino, has been extended through March 13 with six additional performances. With increasing demand for tickets, sold out performances and limited availability in others, the show has been extended for one week before it previews tonight, February 10, and opens February 13.

Bartlett Sher to Direct J.T. Rogers' OSLO Off-Broadway at Lincoln Center

Lincoln Center Theater  will produce OSLO, a new play by J.T. Rogers, directed by Bartlett Sher, beginning performances Thursday, June 16.   Commissioned by Lincoln Center Theater, OSLO will open Monday, July 11 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).

Photo Flash: THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, Starring Margaret Colin, Celebrates Opening at Arena Stage

Anthony Giardina's Off-Broadway smash hit THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, about a Georgetown political hostess, makes its Washington, D.C. debut at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Following his direction of the 2014 world premiere at Lincoln Center Theater, Tony Award winner Doug Hughes returns to direct this political drama spanning three decades, from Carter's presidency through the Reagan era and ending with Obama's inauguration. THE CITY OF CONVERSATION runs now through March 6, 2016 in the Fichandler Stage. The show just celebrated its opening night and BroadwayWorld has photos from the festivities below!

Omaha Community Playhouse Welcomes New Artistic Director

The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) is pleased to announce that Kimberly Faith Hickman has accepted the position of artistic director of the Playhouse. Hickman will begin at OCP full time on June 1, 2016 and is filling the position upon the dismissal of OCP's most recent Artistic Director Hilary Adams. Susan Baer Collins, former OCP associate artistic director, has been acting as interim artistic director since last December and she will work with Hickman in the transition.

Two-Disc Album for Jonathan Groff-Led A NEW BRAIN Out Today from PS Classics

Over the summer, Jonathan Groff led the Encores! Off-Center production of William Finn and James Lapine's A NEW BRAIN, and fans who didn't make it to the show need not worry any longer. The production's two-disc cast recording (featuring the entire 95-minute show) from PS Classics hits shelves today, February 5, 2016.

Route 66 Theatre Co.'s NO WAKE to Transfer to Los Angeles

Route 66 Theatre Company, in association with the LA-based VS. Theatre Company, is pleased to announce the transfer of its hit Chicago production NO WAKE to Los Angeles. Written by William Donnelly and directed by Kimberly Senior, NO WAKE's West Coast premiere will play February 25 - March 19, 2016 at VS. Theatre Company, 5453 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles. The press opening is Saturday, February 27 at 8 pm.
