Cleveland Orchestra Receives $2.5 Million Grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a new $2.5 million grant to The Cleveland Orchestra to support artistically ambitious programming with special emphasis on opera and ballet, as well as collaborations with guest artists. This gift - the largest to the Orchestra in the Foundation's history - supports the type of programming and partnerships that challenge and expand the Orchestra and help distinguish the Orchestra from its peers.

ACME Performs Works by Weinberg, Shostakovich and Gorecki at the Morgan Tonight

ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble performs tonight, April 18 at 7:30pm. presented by The Morgan Library and Museum (225 Madison Avenue) and the Polish Cultural Institute New York. ACME pays homage to the late, largely unsung Polish composer Mieczys?aw Weinberg with an elegiac chamber music program that includes his exquisite Piano Quintet Op. 18, plus Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67 and selections from Henryk Gorecki's String Quartet No. 3.

Direct from sold-out engagements at The National Theatre of Scotland and the Lincoln Center Festival, this acclaimed one-man interpretation of Macbeth, starring Alan Cumming, will play a strictly limited 73-performance engagement at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Preview performances began on Sunday, April 7 (7 p.m.) with an official Opening Night on Sunday, April 21 (6 p.m.). The Broadway run will conclude on Sunday, June 30. The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Now in its 15th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook celebrates the best in American singing and songwriting with a new chapter in the Songbook story: 'American Songbook in the Penthouse,' a series of weekend-only performances by performers and composers presented in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. The second weekend of Kaplan Penthouse performances, the sixth week of American Songbook 2013, runs April 5-6, 2013. April 5th belongs to Cristin Milioti, who was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for her lead role in the musical Once.

Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. 'American Songbook in the Penthouse' embraces adventuresome performers and celebrates composers and lyricists, both newer and veteran. With a seating capacity of just 225, the Kaplan Penthouse allows acoustic performers to be heard the way they intend - near to the audience and without elaborate amplification. The size of the space also allows performers to interact with their audience to make them an integral part of their performance, something difficult to do in a larger, more formal venue.

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the 2013 Festival's line-up, which runs from July 6 through 28, 2013. Single tickets go on sale on April 8 for the Festival, which will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. There will be a total of 62 performances by artists and ensembles from ­­­­­ten countries.

Composers & the Voice Program Will Return for American Opera Projects' 2013-14 Season

American Opera Projects (AOP) announces the return of its popular Composers & the Voice program for its 2013-14 season. Created and led by Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood, six composers or composer/librettist teams will be selected for a year-long fellowship, working with the company's Reside nt Ensemble of Singers and Artistic Team. Applications and additional information can be found at AOP's website www.operaprojects.org/composers_voice. The deadline for applications is May 17, 2013. All sessions will be at AOP's home base in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
