Ars Nova has announced the lineup for its 8th Annual ANT Fest, running June 1 - 26. This year's festival of all new talent features four nonstop weeks of comedy, music & theater mash-ups, and invites audiences on a nightly adventure with the next wave of breakthrough artists at Ars Nova. William Shakespeare's swift and relentless tragedy, Macbeth, comes to Theater at Monmouth. Filled with ghosts, witches, and dark prophecies, Macbeth will run for one weekend only in Cumston Hall this weekend, October 17-19 before heading out on the road as part of the theatre's Shakespeare in Maine Communities Education Tour.

Macbeth will tour for three weeks to schools and community centers across the state.
Now in its fourth year, The Communal Spaces Festival will premiere eight new short plays inspired by and performed in community gardens in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The festival will take place on the last weekend in August and the first two weekends in September. Previous festivals have included site specific performances in community gardens on the Lower East Side, East Village, Upper West Side and Harlem. In the past four years 27 new works have been presented. This year's titles include Washougal My Heart, COMPETE ME and ALTHEA THE GARDEN CANTATA.

This year, "Communal Spaces: a garden play festival" will share its final weekend with the LUNGS Harvest Art Festival, a multidimensional arts festival that reflects the creative spirit of the neighborhood and the integral part that community gardens play in the culture and life of Lower East Side. Last year, Communal Spaces' play 'Don't Weep for Me, Willow Tree' was featured as part of the festival. This year, all the plays will be part of the weekend of arts events. Admission is free.

The Platform Group announces The Ladder Series, a staged reading series aimed at getting new plays to the next rung. Out of more than 100 submissions, ten new plays will receive a staged reading at The Creek and Cave in Long Island City, N.Y. The Ladder series is scheduled to begin on July 15th and continue into early October.
