Wow! Just effing Wow! Miami New Drama's artistic director, Michel Hausmann has mounted a can't believe I'm seeing this bang bang show in Miami Beach's Colony Theatre.

Aziza Barne's BLKS is a stop-you-in-your-tracks, laugh-out-loud comedy that is about to take DC by storm. Barnes' electric writing powerfully celebrates, queerness, sisterhood and the implications of being 'Black and alive.' With director Nataki Garrett at the helm, the cast brings Aziza's words to life with infectious joy. My cheeks still hurt from smiling.

Geva Theatre Center's 2018-2019 Fielding Studio Series continues with the world premiere of The Magician's Daughter, written by Lila Rose Kaplan and directed by Shelley Butler. This production marks the second world premiere of the season, following hot on the heels of the world premiere of Brent Askari's Hard Cell - also premiering in January. The Magician's Daughter begins performances on January 24 and runs in the Fielding Stage through February 10.

Long Wharf Theatre, under the direction of Managing Director Joshua Borenstein and Artistic Director Jacob Padron, presents Paradise Blue, by Dominique Morisseau, directed by Awoye Timpo.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director) presents A Christmas Carol in Harlem, based on the timeless work by Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol in Harlem is adapted by Shawn Rene Graham, directed by Steve H. Broadnax III and choreographed by Tiffany Rea-Fisher. This re-imagining of the classic Christmas tale will include some original music and classic holiday carols tinged with gospel, hip-hop, pop and R&B influences, which celebrate the spirit of the season the Harlem way.

It's enthralling stuff, it's us versus them, them versus us in racially loaded 1964 Miami. 2018? Pretty much the same.

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Managing Director Joshua Borenstein, presents Paradise Blue by Dominique Morisseau, directed by Awoye Timpo, from November 21 through December 16, 2018.

Cleveland Play House (CPH) brings to life Lynn Nottage's complex story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rust Belt drama Sweat.  Set in Reading, PA, this relevant story offers audience members suspense through its intricate portrayal of characters battling to survive in a city crippled by economic stagnation. CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley will direct. Previews begin on October 13th, with press opening on October 19th at the Outcalt Theatre in Playhouse Square. This production is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company.

The Alliance Theatre is pleased to present the world premiere production of Nick's Flamingo Grill, by award-winning Atlanta playwright and author Phillip DePoy.  Nick's Flamingo Grill is inspired by the true story of the first integrated jazz club in Atlanta and will debut on the Hertz Stage September 29 - October 28, 2018.  Opening night is Thursday, October 4.

Back for its sixth season of free theater performances and affectionately known as the Uptown Shakespeare in the Park, the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) is thrilled to return to Marcus Garvey Park this summer, presenting a work that showcases the strength and voices of audacious women responding to rigid societal inequities.

The Colorado Theatre Guild's 13th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Lone Tree Arts Center, located at 10075 Commons St. Lone Tree, CO 80124. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a reception at the Lone Tree Arts Center. MAJOR BARBARA tackles the age-old question of how best to help someone: Do you give them a fish or a job fishing? It's an interesting play to be putting on right now, but I think the material -- and the audience -- would have benefitted from a slightly less dusty, even if that meant less opulent, production.

The clash between a daughter's philanthropic idealism and her father's hard-headed capitalism is at the heart of George Bernard Shaw's witty and timely classic Major Barbara, which begins preview performances at The Armory on April 14, opens on April 20, and runs through May 13 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage.
