Great Music at St. Bart's, the concert series produced by the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation (MMPAF), for the past seven years has presented music in St. Bartholomew's Church, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of New York located in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The magnificent 1918 Romanesque-style church features a portal designed by Stanford White and a grand Byzantine-style interior and two of New York's unlikely but outstanding concert spaces: the 150-seat chapel, an intimate and acoustically brilliant space that is perfectly suited for contemporary chamber music, and the majestic 1,000-seat sanctuary outfitted with comfortable chairs enabling flexible seating whose Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ is the largest in New York City and one of the finest examples of the American Classic Organ in the U.S.
According to The Washington Post, British actor Roy Dotrice died in his London home on Monday at age 94. Dotrice has played many theater and television roles, notably Leopold Mozart in the Oscar-winning film Amadeus. He received a Tony Award in 2000 for his role in the Broadway revival of A Moon for the Misbegotten.

The American Symphony Orchestra will open the 57th season of its Vanguard series at Carnegie Hall with a program titled The Sounds of Democracy on Wednesday, October 11 at 8 pm. All performances in this year's four-concert series - comprising three at Carnegie Hall and one at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall - will offer a timely political framework by examining the music composers have created under various types of leadership. American democracy was shaped by the ideals, vision, and principles of its leaders, particularly Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy. The Sounds of Democracy is an evening featuring works of American composers inspired by the legacy of these two presidents, who protected our liberties and stood by the common people against the interests of the rich and powerful. Sessions' Second Symphony is dedicated to FDR, Bernstein's Kaddish is both a Jewish prayer for the dead and a celebration of life, and Copland wrote Canticle of Freedom in response to the assault on civil liberties during the McCarthy era. Goodman Theatres honors the life and legacy of Howard Witt, one of the American theater's most accomplished actors, by hosting a public celebration event on Monday, October 2. Witt, whose six-decade theatrical career began and ended at the Goodman, passed away peacefully on June 21 at the age of 85. The celebration includes remarks and artistic presentations by Witt's family, including his three children-Deborah, Robin and Joshua Witt-close friends and artists.
The San Francisco Early Music Society's 2017-18 concert season kicks off the weekend of October 20 with three concerts by The Aulos Ensemble. The venerable original instrument ensemble will perform a program devoted to Handel and His World, featuring selections from Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen, one of Telemann's Paris Quartets and several more pieces for three and four voices by both Handel and Telemann.
Best known as the illustrator of the American classic Eloise, Hilary Knight cites the performing arts as the single greatest influence on his life and career. Now for the first time, Knight's life-long love of the theatrical is the subject of a comprehensive exhibition, which has been extended through October 14, 2017 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Hilary Knight's Stage-Struck World includes original artwork for posters, illustrations for Vanity Fair magazine (where Knight is a contributing editor), Knight's most recent work - three-dimensional portraits in stage-like settings - and costume and set designs for performances and revues that reveal that for Knight, all the world is indeed a stage.
