Winifred Haun & Dancers teams up with the Leopold Group to curate a series of events, Vision, Faith, & Desire: Dancemakers Inspired by Martha Graham, inspired by the legacy of modern dance choreographer Martha Graham, culminating in performances on Friday, September 27 at 7:30pm and Saturday, September 28 at 7:30pm at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn. The Saturday night performance will be preceded by a Graham technique master class at 5:00pm, taught by former Graham Company dancer Lisa Thurrell. Tickets are available online through Brown Paper Tickets, $30 general admission or $25 for the master class which includes a free ticket to the show. In addition to new works by Chicago natives Haun, Leopold and Kato, the performances will feature a screen dance by former Graham Company soloist Peter Sparling, a remounted work by former Graham dancer Lisa Thurrell of Kanopy Dance Company, and using the creative structure by The Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, a new "Lamentation Variation.'
On October 27th at 2PM, the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony led by music director David Bernard returns to the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall for a program of Dvorak, Brahms, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. Make Music New York presents the world premiere of Jed Distler's Broken Record, a piece composed for 175 battery-powered Yamaha keyboards and one Yamaha acoustic grand piano on Cornelia Street in the West Village today, June 21st. Gregory Boyd, Artistic Director of the Alley Theatre, announces the addition of the 2013 Tony Award-winning Best Play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, by Christopher Durang, to the Alley Theatre's 2013-2014 season as the last Hubbard Stage production. Good People, by David Lindsay-Abaire, will be performed on the Neuhaus Stage from May 30 to June 29, 2014. Bertolt Brecht's The Good Woman of Setzuan will be moved to a future season.
The National Symphony Orchestra today announced its 2013 line-up of performances at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Eleven performances will take place between June 26 and August 3, 2013. Emil de Cou, in his ninth season as NSO@Wolf Trap Festival Conductor, hosts 10 of the performances and conducts four, including the opening and closing performances in the series.
