'You (Plural),' A Film Adaptation of James Joyce's 'Ulysses,' 'Hamlet,' and Homer's 'Odyssey,' Launches on Kickstarter

Novels, such as James Joyce's 'Ulysses,' 'Hamlet' and Homer's 'Odyssey,' are classic works of literature that are loved by many. These famous stories have captivated many with their compelling plots, infamous lessons and powerful morals. Unfortunately, the power of these inspirational books is lost on high school students and younger generations. However, a new feature film on Kickstarter from 'You (Plural)' is taking these beloved novels, and adapting them to become more relatable in today's modern world.

National Arts Club's NAHUM TSCHACBASOV: A RETROSPECTIVE Closes Today

A retrospective of work by Russian-born American artist Nahum Tschacbasov (1899-1984) will close today, June 16. Curated by Marina Kovalyov, the exhibition includes over fifty paintings and will be on view June 1-16, 2013 at the National Arts Club, as part of the 11th Annual Russian Heritage Month, a celebration of events and exhibits highlighting Russian culture.

Full Lineup for 2013 Midtown International Theatre Festival Announced

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF)'s fourteenth season will include a slate of full-length plays and musicals, as well as Short Subjects. The Festival will run from July 15 to August 4, 2013, at the June Havoc Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 1st floor; the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 1st floor; the Main Stage Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 4th floor; and the Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 4th floor.

Radio Bloomsday 2013 to Feature Caraid O'Brien and Bernadette Quigley

For the first time ever, the complete Molly Bloom monologue from James Joyce's Ulysses will be performed live by not one but two actresses, Caraid O'Brien and Bernadette Quigley, as a conversation that Molly has with her younger self. Each year, Radio Bloomsday ends its 7 hour nationwide broadcast of James Joyce's Ulysses with the book's final chapter - a two hour passion filled monologue, by the novel's heroine, Molly Bloom.

Gary L. Anderson's NAKED DARROW Plays Drilling Company, Now thru 6/30

'Naked Darrow,' written and performed by Gary L. Anderson, looks at America's most hated and revered attorney, Clarence Darrow, as his great mind slips away. The play, based on the most current and intimate details of Darrow's private life, is a new and revelatory portrait of the man, not the legend. It presents an end-of-life scenario that will bring a shock of recognition to audiences who have, or may have imagined, their own struggle to face aging and to leave a legacy that may endure. Gold Coast International Film Festival Presents PORTRAIT OF WALLY, Today

TONIGHT, Thursday, May 30, 2013, The Gold Coast International Film Festival is honored to present a screening of the film Portrait of Wally at Great Neck Arts Center, 113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck (entrance off Maple Drive). The evening, which is being produced by the Gold Coast International Film Festival and Gold Coast Arts Center (formerly known as the Great Neck Arts Center) in conjunction with the Town of North Hempstead and the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County and is sponsored by the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, will feature a reception at 6:30pm, film at 7:30 PM followed by a Q&A sessionwith Historian and Author Willi Korte after the film.

Musicals have come from various sources. There has been the tale of an illiterate flower girl who was transformed into a proper woman (MY FAIR LADY), a Biblical Jewish youth who became a leader in Egypt (JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT), a prince who kept searching for his corner of the sky until he realized that it was right where he was (PIPPIN), and a big nosed sassy New York girl who transformed herself into a famous vaudeville star (FUNNY GIRL).

Tickets are $15 for short plays and $18 for longer plays. Tickets are available at www.midtownfestival.org. The Festival also offers various group discounts and package passes, good for full-length and short plays.
