Schreiber and Johansson Set for A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE

Tony® Award-winner Liev Schreiber and Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson, in her Broadway debut, will star in Arthur Miller's A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE directed by Gregory Mosher on Broadway at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). Performances begin Monday, December 28, 2009 and the official opening is Sunday, January 24, 2010. The limited engagement will run for 14 weeks only.

OKLAHOMA! is the first of the Rodgers & Hammerstein masterworks and is credited with establishing the musical play as a significant art form, paving the way for all others that came after it, including the works of Lerner & Loewe, Frank Loesser and Leonard Bernstein. After OKLAHOMA!, composer Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein, II (1895-1960) produced such vital works as CAROUSEL, THE KING AND I, SOUTH PACIFIC and THE SOUND OF MUSIC, making them the most important contributors to the musical-play form during the 1940s-1950s, the era that is considered the golden age of the medium.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is pleased to announce the full cast for Ordinary Days, a new musical with Music & Lyrics by Adam Gwon, directed by Marc Bruni. Ordinary Days will feature Lisa Brescia as 'Claire,' Hunter Foster as 'Jason,' Jared Gertner as 'Warren' and Kate Wetherhead as 'Deb.' This production marks the first musical presented in the Black Box Theatre.

At a press conference in Tokyo today, New York Philharmonic Music Director Designate Alan Gilbert and President and Executive Director Zarin Mehta announced the details of Asian Horizons: Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, October 8?24, 2009. This will be the Orchestra?s inaugural international concert tour under the leadership of Alan Gilbert, who will begin his tenure as Music Director in September 2009. Asian Horizons will consist of eleven concerts, spanning five Asian countries, with performances in Tokyo, Japan (a destination of special significance in light of Mr. Gilbert?s Japanese heritage); Seoul, Korea; Singapore; and the Philharmonic?s debut performances in Hanoi, Vietnam, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Pianist Emanuel Ax and violinists Frank Peter Zimmermann and Ye-Eun Choi (Philharmonic debut) are the featured soloists on the tour. Asian Horizons marks the fourth New York Philharmonic concert tour under the aegis of Credit Suisse, the Orchestra?s Global Sponsor, and the second in Asia.

According to a report in the New York Times, The New York Philharmonic is the recent recipient of a series of grants from the Leon Levy Foundation allocated towards putting historical archives online in a unique program. The music institution has elected to launch this program with the scores of Leonard Bernstein, who has a long relationship with the Philharmonic as both a conductor and a composer.

NY Philharmonic Receives Gift From Leon Levy Foundation to Digitize Archives

The New York Philharmonic has received a $2.4 million grant from the Leon Levy Foundation to digitize 1.3 million pages of material from its Archives, making them available to scholars, musicians, students, and the general public over the Internet. This will be the first phase of a comprehensive long-range project to digitize almost the entire New York Philharmonic Archives. The first phase, which is scheduled for completion in three years, will digitize documents, as well as a small sample of audio and video files, from the New York Philharmonic's International Era, 1943 to 1970. The project will launch with Leonard Bernstein's marked conducting scores, scheduled for availability online in spring 2010.
