Broadway Sessions recently held its 3rd annual Black History Month celebration. We invited an all star roster of Broadway talent to share songs and stories reflecting the influence, impact and legacy of black artists on Broadway and beyond. HOLY MOLY! This was one of the most incredible nights of music we have enjoyed. Beyond that it was moving, hilarious and profound. Enjoy these highlights from Broadway vets Antoine  L Smith, Soarer-Joye Ross, Storm Lever, Brennyn Lark, Judith Franklin, Phoenix Best, Elijah Ahmad Lewis, Tiana Okoye, Michel Demby Cain, Imari Hardon, Avery Smith, Nick Rashad Burroughs, Quentin Earl Darrington, Jennie Harney Fleming, John Edwards, Laurissa 'Lala' Romain, Shonica Gooden and Emme Kemp. We also enjoyed performances from 'Rising Stars' Richard Baskin Jr. and Aneesa Folds. OH, and maybe just an impromptu pre show performance by Tony-winning legend FAITH PRINCE! It was a good night.

Josephine Sanges will bring her Harold Arlen tribute show COME RAIN OR COME SHINE back to the Laurie Beechman on February 28.

The US Premiere of BLEACH by Dan Ireland-Reeves will extend for an additional 2 weeks. This award-winning underground hit, seen throughout the UK as well as in Paris, Stockholm and Dublin, made its US premiere in January in an intimate, immersive production performed for an audience of 10.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is proud to present award-winning vocalist Josephine Sanges in a special return for one night only of Come Rain or Come Shine, the Music of Harold Arlen, on Thursday, February 27th at 7:00 pm. Sanges taps the Academy Award-winning songbook of Arlen ('I've Got The World on a String,' 'Stormy Weather,' 'Over the Rainbow, 'Blues in the Night') plus more songs from Hollywood ('The Wizard of Oz,' 'A Star is Born') as well as Broadway ('St. Louis Woman,' 'House of Flowers').

Back Porch Swing: Swingin' Standards in Knockout Harmony will be presented by the Marquee Fiveon Friday, March 1 at 7:00 PM at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. We had a HUGE night at Broadway Sessions recently as we welcomed the cast of King Kong! Cast members Erik Lochtefeld, Jaquez Sims, Jennifer Noble, Nick Rashad Burroghs, Leroy Church, Casey Garvin, Kayla Davion, Rhaamel Burke-Missouri, Rory Donovan,  Chloe Chambers and our Rising Star Ciana Micelli, proved just how BIG talent can be. Do I have time for more giant ape puns? No? OK, well, enjoy these ENORMOUSLY entertaining highlights.

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway cast twice monthly. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida, Footloose, Dance Captain Dance Attack web series) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano.  

This week's decluttering is only freeing up a tiny bit of space in my collection, but it represents an enormous place in my heart. The only version of The Wiz I have on CD is the AMAZING/IF YOU DON'T KNOW IT, YOU'RE NOT A REAL BROADWAY FAN original cast album starring Stephanie Mills. I do have the movie soundtrack in my iTunes and the soundtrack of 'The Wiz Live!' is on Apple Music, so let's dive in.

After a critically acclaimed run in Philadelphia last summer, RuPaul's Drag Race Star Mimi Imfurst will return as Hedwig in reTHEATER's production of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's gender bending rock musical HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. The production was nominated for a 2018 Barrymore Awatd and The Philadelphia Inquirer hailed Imfurst as giving 'a performance worthy of a rock star, at once weepy and melodramatic and infused with the fury and angst of long-endured sorrow.' It will be presented for one night only: Today, February 15 at 7pm at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (inside West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street -- at Ninth Avenue). Nancy McGraw brings her Johnny Mercer show, In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening to the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Friday, February 22 at 7 PM, and Sunday, February 24 at 1 PM. McGraw presents Mercer's lyrics through the lens of their shared Southern heritage, based on a Mercer quote: 'If you want to ask what makes me tick, I would say that it is that I am from Savannah.'

Dr. Bradley Jones returns to the Laurie Beechman stage on Feb. 13th, 2019 at 7pm with a benefit performance of the hilarious and moving coming-of-age story, Dr. Bradley's Fabulous Functional Narcissism: The Psychoanalytic Odyssey of a Once Glorified Chorus Boy. 100% of net proceeds will benefit the Actors Fund.

Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present "In The Works."  This exciting series was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.  It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.

Actress/Singer, Jennifer Roberts returns to New York with two encore appearances of 'Jennifer Roberts:She Loves...Sheldon!' at the Laurie Beechman Theater. Wednesday, January 30th and Today, February 5th @ 7:00 p.m. Appearing with Jennifer are Musical Director/Pianist Tedd Firth, with Phil Palombi on bass.
