The monumental Tragédie Lyrique and the Comédie-Ballet of Jean Baptiste Lully, né Giovanni Battista Lulli, gradually eclipse the Air de Cour, as a glittering age hungry for spectacle swiftly hurdles towards its end.

Following a season of change and transition, Calgary Opera announced a fresh and innovative line-up of productions, programs and packages that will form their 2019-20 season today. This season, the company's 48th, includes three main stage opera productions at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and a series of smaller performances at other venues across the city.

Every four years the Society of British Theatre Designers represents the work of performance designers based in the UK at the largest scenography event in the world. This year the process has been redesigned as a digital submission to encourage set, costume, lighting, sound, video and experiential designers across every genre of performance design including theatre, opera, dance, live art, circus, carnival and outdoor festivals to apply.
