Pride Films and Plays continues its very fun summer with one repeating event and a Chicago premiere. PFP's second annual Women's Work Weekend will feature enhanced staged readings of new lesbian plays and screenplays by women writers from across the country. And that will be closely followed by Mariah MacCarthy's delightful comedy spoofing all things gender-centric: The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret, directed by Tara Branham.
Barbra Streisand Responds to Larry Kramer on NORMAL HEART Film

As Michael Riedel previously wrote in the NY Post, there is currently some tension between THE NORMAL HEART writer Larry Kramer and Barbra Streisand, who was set to direct a film version of the play back in 1986. The Streisand-directed movie never came to fruition, and when Kramer sent Streisand good reviews from the national tour that just opened in Washington D.C., Streisand responded to Kramer with: "Why make me sad that I'm not directing your wonderful play?" Kramer responed with an email to Streisand that can be found at the NYP.

Following her holiday show in Provincetown last Christmas, and her debut at the Laurie Beechman Theater in New York City this past February, David Drake's newest theatrical creation Tawny Heatherton will bring her blonde-swept brand of cheer back to the tip of the Cape for her very first summer-long engagement - with the premiere of TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA. With onstage musical direction by John Thomas, TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE opens tonight, June 17th and performs every Sunday at 10PM thru Sept 2nd in the Crown Cabaret Room of the Crown & Anchor, 247 Commercial Street. Tickets are $25, and can be obtained in-person at the box office, or online at www.onlyatthecrown.com. (Note: *No performance on July 8th.)

Wolfe, who directed the show's sold-out Broadway engagement last season, is mounting the professional D.C.-area premiere of this production, which features returning Broadway cast members Patrick Breen and Luke MacFarlane, among others. Presented by special arrangement with Daryl Roth, The Normal Heart is now playing though July 29 in the Kreeger Theater.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced today that The Normal Heart, Larry Kramer's landmark play focusing on the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City in the 1980s, will open the 2012-13 season this fall, playing Sep 13-Oct 7.
