TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE Premieres at Boston's Crown & Anchor Tonight, 6/17

Following her holiday show in Provincetown last Christmas, and her debut at the Laurie Beechman Theater in New York City this past February, David Drake's newest theatrical creation Tawny Heatherton will bring her blonde-swept brand of cheer back to the tip of the Cape for her very first summer-long engagement – with the premiere of TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA. With onstage musical direction by John Thomas, TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE opens tonight, June 17th and performs every Sunday at 10PM thru Sept 2nd in the Crown Cabaret Room of the Crown & Anchor, 247 Commercial Street. Written by and starring Obie Award winner David Drake (The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me), TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE marks the unheralded return of Tawny Heatherton, a showbiz survivor and "one hit wonder" of the disco zeitgeist of the 1980s. In the show, Tawny sings and regales the audience with hilarious tales of her globetrotting life-on-the-road – including her headline-grabbing turn as the unwitting "Pyro Girl of Long Island," her short-lived stint as a Hee-Haw "Honey," and Tawny's quest to reunite with her long-lost aunt Joey Heatherton, whom she last saw in the parking lot of the Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino. And her abduction by aliens.

David Drake is an actor-writer-director who came to Provincetown from NYC in 2008. He is best-known as the Obie Award-winning playwright/performer of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, one of the longest-running solo shows in NY theater history – which debuted 20 years ago this June. Also off-Broadway, David starred in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom (succeeding Charles Busch for 856 performances), originated the role of "Miss Deep South" in the smash hit musical Pageant, co-starred with Jim J. Bullock in End of the World Party at the 47th St. Theater, and starred opposite B.D. Wong in A Language of Their Own at The Public. TV credits: LAW & ORDER, THE BEAT, NY UNDERCOVER, LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT, and most recently THE GOOD WIFE. Feature films: Jonathan Demme's Academy Award-winning Philadelphia, as well as It's Pat, Naked in New York, David Searching, Bear City, Longtime Companion, and starring in his own adaptation of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me. As a stage director, David has twice been a Directing Fellow at the Sundance Theater Lab, and has directed new works in New York at The Public's "Under the Radar" Festival, Joe's Pub, Rattlestick, Theater for the New City, and the NYC International Fringe Festival. Regionally, David has directed productions in San Francisco, Baltimore, Anchorage, and last fall returned to the Provincetown Theater Company to direct the world premiere of Myra Slotnick's drama The Weight of Water. Previously in Provincetown, David directed the New England premieres of David Parr's Slap & Tickle and Brad Faser's Poor Super Man, as well as the acclaimed 2010 revival of Thornton Wilder's classic Our Town. Most recently in New York, David was a director of the world premiere of Taylor Mac's The Lily's Revenge, which made the "10 Best Lists" in The New Yorker, The NY Post, The Advocate, Paper Magazine, and won a 2010 Village Voice Obie Award.

John Thomas is a Provincetown-based composer, pianist, music director, actor, photographer, writer and event producer. A man of many talents, his long list of credits includes composing Pure PolyESTHER: a biblical burlesque (with Abe Rybeck) and music for Theater Productions from Provincetown to Cape Cod Community College. He wrote and performed the solo show Spontaneous Me: A Night with Walt Whitman. On the Cape, he has been music director for productions of Hair, Cabaret, The Wild Party, Naked Boys Singing, Working, Candide, as well as taking such leading onstage roles as Cosme McMoon in Souvenir, Mashkan in Old Wicked Songs and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. John has performed at Boston Symphony Hall, in California, New Hampshire and Connecticut, and on the Greek island of Mykonos. His music is featured in films and his photographs have been exhibited in Provincetown's museums and Berta Walker Gallery.
