Celebrated cabaret performer Jamie deRoy will host a special edition of the acclaimed 'MAC/ASAPC Songwriters' Showcase,' an ongoing series exploring the role of Songwriters in America on Saturday, October 31st from 2pm to 4Ppm at the Metropolitan Room. The afternoon program will focus on Songwriters from the West Coast with participants including Melissa Manchester, Mark Winkler, Shelly Markham and Geoffrey Leigh Tozer.

New York at 400: The Broadway View Cabaret will showcase the voices of Broadway stars Nancy Anderson, Joy Lynn Matthews, Howard McGillin, and Jim Stanek presenting an affectionate, sometimes satirical, celebration of the city's 400th birthday with songs by some of Broadway's best composers and songwriters, including Victor Herbert, Kurt Weill, the Gershwins, Charles Strouse, and Rodgers and Hart.

Girl Crazy, the first Encores! production of the New York City Center season, will star Ana Gasteyer, Wayne Knight and Marc Kudisch and will run November 19 - 22. Girl Crazy, directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle with Guest Music Director Rob Fisher, has music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan.

According to a report in whatsonstage.com, after performances on 'Later...with Jools Holland' and five star sell-out shows at The Roundhouse, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Edinburgh Fringe, Camille O'Sullivan will bring her acclaimed on-woman cabaret show, Dark Angel, to the West End from December 7-January 16, 2010. The show will make its West End debut at the Apollo Theatre.

Tony Winner Donna McKechnie and Klea Blackhurst will join Cady Huffman as performers in the 42nd Street Moon Salons, which will hold two performances on October 13th and January 28th. The October 13th performanace, entitled 'I Feel A Song Coming On!' is a salon of Dorothy Fields songs and is lead by Tony Winner Cady Huffman. The January 28th salon is a tribute to Ira Gershwin, led by McKechnie. Also joining the cast is Klea Blackhurst, as well as Bill Fahrner, Alexandra Kaprelian and Darlene Popovich.

South Coast Repertory kicks off the 2009-10 Season with Putting It Together, a compilation of Stephen Sondheim songs, that the composer put together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, creating a narrative set at a cocktail party in an elegant Manhattan condo. The non-traditional musical, led by Broadway and television star Harry Groener, has a cast of five (a glamorous but slightly jaded couple, a starry-eyed younger couple and a savvy observer) who sing more than 30 songs that reflect their lives, lifestyles and moods of the moment. Some of the songs will be familiar, some less so, a few were even cut from their original musical scores, but they are all sophisticated, smart and drop-dead droll. All, in other words, Sondheim.

FEINSTEIN'S AT LOEWS REGENCY, the nightclub proclaimed 'Best of New York' by New York Magazine and 'an invaluable New York institution' by The New York Post, will continue its star-studded Fall 2009 season with the celebrated chanteuse, MAUDE MAGGART. She will bring her critically-acclaimed show 'Parents and Children' back to New York. When it debuted last spring, The New York Times called Maude an 'increasingly fascinating entertainer' whose show was 'bewitching' and 'seductive.' The evening features songs by Stephen Sondheim ('Beautiful'), Rodgers & Hammerstein ('You've Got To Be Carefully Taught'), Dolly Parton ('Coat Of Many Colors'), George Gershwin ('The Man I Love'), Alec Wilder ('Be A Child') and Maury Yeston ('My Grandmother's Love Letters'). Maude is returning to Feinstein's for the first time since her New York nightclub debut as Michael Feinstein's guest in December 2001. All shows will take place at the Regency Hotel.

2009 Kurt Weill Prize Awarded to Joshua Goldstein and Christopher Reynolds

The 2009 Kurt Weill Prize for outstanding scholarship on music theater since 1900, carrying a cash prize of $10,000, has been awarded to Joshua Goldstein, Assistant Professor of Chinese History, University of Southern California, for his book Drama Kings: Players and Publics in the Re-creation of Peking Opera 1870-1937 (University of California Press, 2007).
