MACK AND MABEL is a love story between a director who can't be anything but what he is and an actress who can't figure out who she is. More deeply, it is a story about the turbulent relationship between Hollywood and cinema. And like Normand, it's smart and funny too.
The story focuses on two All-American and clean cut high school sweethearts Jimmy (Sean McGee) and Mary Lane (Taylor Beyer). They want to grow up together, have babies, lots of friends and end up happily ever after like their favorite couple “Romeo and Juliet” (a story in which they don't know the horrible ending). Well much like their favorite couple, they are pulled apart and struggle against the odds of being together. Jimmy, under the pretense that he's getting some jazz dance lessons, gets sucked into the lair of a reefer den and after one puff of what they have to offer; he becomes hooked and quickly abandons everything he knows. His fall from grace into a world of debauchery and sexual promiscuity brings on the mayhem as he struggles to choose between the hypnotizing Mary Jane, and his sweetheart Mary Lane.

Inspired by the classic 1936 anti-marijuana propaganda film, this tongue-in-cheek musical follows the hysterical downward spiral that arises when a group of clean-cut kids fall prey to the dreaded marijuana, and we're here to tell you who those crazy kids are.
For over four decades,Stephen Schwartz's musical career has brought to life hit musicals such as Godspell, The Baker's Wife and Wicked, as well as music in some of our favorite films such as Pocahontas, The Prince of Egypt and Enchanted. In honor and celebration of this brilliant composer, DEFY GRAVITY was conceived by Michael J. Bobbitt with musical arrangement by John Cornelius ll. Together, they have created a musical revue comprised of 28 songs which takes the audience on a journey through many of Schwartz's classics in the realm of musicals and film.
The World Premiere production of MURDER BALLAD at MTC's The Studio at Stage II took New York by storm in 2012. In 2013 it transferred to the Union Square Theatre and played 17 previews and 70 regular performances before closing on July 21. This past Sunday, I got to crash a technical rehearsal of TUTS Underground's steamy production of MURDER BALLAD. In its Houston Premiere, the hit musical features Steel Burkhardt (as Tom), Pat McRoberts (as Michael), Lauren Molina (as Sara) and Kristin Warren (as the Narrator).
When TUTS Underground announced their inaugural season, it was clear that they were keeping their promise of bringing Houston audiences an edgier and more risque brand of theatre. TUTS Underground is kicking off the second half of their season of rockin' musical theatre with the regional premiere of MURDER BALLAD, a sexy murder story about a love triangle gone wrong. Playing the role of the narrator, Kristin Warren took some time out of her busy schedule to let Houston audiences know what they can expect from this racy musical.

Since we're living in Houston, I promise I won't be upset with you if you tell me you don't know who Mary Testa is. What you first need to understand is that the theatrical gods divinely intervened in her creation. Imagine if Bette Midler and Patti LuPone had a child and named her Mary. Got it? Good. Now, you're beginning to understand why Mary Testa is a theatrical tour de force. With two Tony Awards and other various New York theatre awards under her belt, she has proven herself to be a phenomenal talent that you should not miss.
