Skirball Announces 23rd Annual Summertime Concert Series SUNSET CONCERTS

The Skirball Cultural Center proudly presents the twenty-third annual season of its free summertime live music series, Sunset Concerts. This year's lineup of boundary-pushing artists draws influences from a variety of styles—from Afro-Latin folklore, bilingual soul, and traditional klezmer to New Orleans brass, flamenco fusion, and cosmic jazz. DJs representing the diverse communities of greater Los Angeles will open each of the Thursday night shows. Presented every summer since 1997 in the Skirball's idyllic hillside setting, the Sunset Concerts series—now sponsored by the Bilger Family—draws music fans from across greater Los Angeles.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene Unveils 2019-2020 'Season Of Spiritual Resistance'

On the heels of its spectacular, sold-out run of the Yiddish presentation of Fiddler on The Roof, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) has announced the 2019-2020 season. For the first time ever, NYTF will present a season with four mainstage productions with a flexible season subscription. The productions, concerts and readings were curated to accompany the incoming exhibit Auschwitz: Not long ago. Not far away on display at the Museum of Jewish Heritage beginning on May 8, 2019.

The New York Cantors Will Perform A Free Outdoor Concert

The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) and Capitol One City Parks Foundation's SummerStage will present The New York Cantors, a concert by three young Cantorial superstars. Their concert aired on PBS and has been seen by millions of viewers on over 150 channels. The Cantors lead three vibrant congregations in the New York area-Azi Schwartz at Park Avenue Synagogue, Yaakov (Yanky) Lemmer at Lincoln Square Synagogue and Netanel Hershtik at the Hamptons Synagogue. The free concert will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at SummerStage in Central Park, E 72nd Street near 5th Ave. Admission is free, seating is on a first-come, first served basis. Doors open at 6 pm. The concert begins at 7 pm.

BETWEEN THE THREADS Opens Tonight At HERE

The World Premiere of Between the Threads opens tonight at HERE. The production began previews last weekend and runs until February 10. Between the Threads is directed by Coral Cohen who also conceived the piece, and features original music by Violinist Zoe Aqua. The limited run features an all-female-identified cast who helped develop the piece.

The Klezmatics Come to Bethel Woods

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will host world-renowned klezmer group The Klezmatics in the Event Gallery - Bethel Woods' intimate, indoor concert space - on July 11th at 8:00 p.m. Reserved seating tickets will go on-sale to the general public on Friday, January 25th at 10:00 a.m. at www.BethelWoodsCenter.org

Flushing Town Hall Continues 40th Anniversary Season Celebrations With A Spectacular Selection Of Jazz And More

In 2019, Flushing Town Hall offers a breadth of outstanding global music, family programs, exhibitions, jazz and workshops. From January through June, Flushing Town Hall will present 72 programs, including 18 world music shows, 10 jazz performances, eight family programs, seven classical music concerts, three exhibitions, and more.  The spring season is a continuation of 40th anniversary celebrations of the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA), the steward of Flushing Town Hall.

Workmen's Circle Benefit Will Honor Tony Kushner

On December 10, The Workmen's Circle will present activist and playwright Tony Kushner, best known for his play Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, with its Activism and Jewish Culture Award at the organization's annual Winter Benefit-Setting the Stage for Change-at The Prince George Ballroom, 15 East 27th Street.

The Klezmatics Come to SOPAC This Month

The foremost and best-loved Klezmer band, The Klezmatics, offer a program from their Grammy Award-winning collaboration with Woody Guthrie's lyrics for Hanukkah. The Klezmatics bring their hip, East Village sensibility to the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30PM.

Tony Kushner To Be Honored By Workmen's Circle

The Workmen's Circle will present activist and widely acclaimed playwright Tony Kushner, best known for his play Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, with the Activism and Jewish Culture Award at the organization's 2018 Winter Benefit on December 10, 2018 in Manhattan.

Czech Marionettes Highlight Centennial Heritage Festival With New Works

From October 6 to 27 at the Upper East Side's Bohemian National Hall and Jan Hus Church, GOH Productions will present a Centennial Heritage Festival, featuring mainstage marionette theater productions for adults and kids and musical concerts for audiences of all ages. The festival celebrates two auspicious anniversaries: the Centennial Anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia (1918) and the Millennial Anniversary of the unification of the Lands of the Czech Crown, under Duke Oldrich (1018).

Peak Performances Kicks Off Season with Afro-Cuban-Yiddish Opera

Peak Performances kicks off its 2018-19 season with the world premiere of Hatuey: Memory of Fire, a rousing Afro-Cuban-Yiddish opera performed in English, Yiddish and Spanish, with music by Frank London, libretto by Elise Thoron, direction by Mary Birnbaum, and choreography by Maija Garcia.
