The 8th annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival is announcing today that two productions from Ireland -- "Pondling" and "Little Thing, Big Thing" (both at 59E59 Theaters), and one from New York -- "Stoopdreamer" at the cell -- each attracted five nominations for the festival's top honors, which will be handed out an Awards Ceremony co-hosted by the Broadway actress Geraldine Hughes at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue, on Monday September 28 at 7pm. The Festival continues through Sunday October 4.

Comedy in many varieties will be the common refrain of the 8th annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival running from September 2 to October 4. In all seven mainstage productions seen in competition (4 US premieres, 3 world premieres), plus seven special events out-of-competition will make up the five-week, month-long festival.

he cell's award-winning production of Seamus Scanlon's THE MCGOWAN TRILOGY will have its UK premiere as the opening play at the new Kino-Teatr in St Leonards-on-Sea in Sussex, opening July 9th for a strictly-limited engagement. NYC-based Irish actor Paul Nugent, who originated the lead role of dark, witty and troubled Irish revolutionary Victor M. McGowan, will return for the UK production, as will Anna Nugent, who won the Best Actress Award at the 2014 1st Irish Festival for her performance as Woman. Paul and Anna, who are married, play childhood sweethearts, now separated by violence. They will be joined in the cast by UK actors Brendan O'Rourke, Ciaran Flynn, Lisa Harmer and Patrick Knowles. Kira Simring, Artistic Director of the cell, who directed the original New York production and won Best Director at the 1st Irish Festival for it, will return to direct. Set design by Russell Baker. The UK premiere of THE MCGOWAN TRILOGY is a co-production between NYC's the cell (Nancy Manocherian, producer) and Kino-Teatr (Olga Mamonova, producer).

Larry Cahn (The Graduate, Guys & Dolls, Epic Proportions, Anything Goes and The Music Man, all on Broadway) has joined the cast of the World Premiere of HEY JUDE by Nancy Manocherian. Presented by the cell, it is directed by Kira Simring with an original score by Michael Dellaira. Previews begin tonight, May 29 with opening slated for Thursday, June 4 at Urban Stages. Good Enough comes to NYC's Theatre Row for a second performance tonight, October 7. Written and performed by Broadway actor Matthew LaBanca, and directed by Kira Simring, Good Enough is the current Bestseller in the United Solo Theatre Festival.

The 7th annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival handed out its jury-voted honors at an awards ceremony at Papillon Bistro and Bar, 22 East 54th Street, on Monday night. Edging out the competition were 'The McGowan Trilogy,' produced by the cell, which grabbed three awards (including best actress, best director and best design), and the Irish Repertory Theatre's 'Port Authority,' which garnered two top prizes -- for best actor and best production.
