The historic Fulton Theatre in downtown Lancaster launches its 2012/2013 season with Gypsy, often held up by critics as the best book musical written in the 20th century. Gypsy is loosely based on the memoirs of vaudeville and burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. It features some of the best-known and loved musical songs, such as 'Everything's Coming up Roses,' 'Some People,' 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Rose's Turn.'

Azuka Theatre is holding their second gala celebration in honor of a visionary in the theatre community. At their first gala, they honored former Azuka Board President and Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Vice President for External Affairs Michael Norris. This year they are honoring local actor and philanthropist Lenny Haas.
Azuka Theatre Closes Season with the Philadelphia Premiere of HAZARD COUNTY 6/20 - 7/1

Azuka Theatre is closing its season with the Philadelphia Premiere of Allison Moore's Hazard County. This 2005 Humana Festival piece will also mark the beginning of an annual program, The New Professionals. The show will be performed at Azuka's new home at the Off-Broad Street Theater at First Baptist Church, 1636 Sansom Street. The show starts previews June 14, opens Wednesday June 20 at 7 p.m., and closes Sunday July 1. Tickets cost $15-$27. Tickets are available online at www.azukatheatre.org or by phone at (215) 563-1100.

The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia's 2011 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre took place on Wednesday, October 3, 2011! The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 66 voters who each saw 8 of the 147 shows nominated this year. Four additional awards-Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service Award, the Ted and Stevie Wolf Award for New Approaches to Collaborations, Brown Martin Philadelphia Award and the F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist-will also be distributed at the ceremony.

To "have everything" is usually up for interpretation. The John W. Engeman Theaters' beautiful production of "Camelot" shows us it is possible even if we don't realize it at first. In one of the most classic period pieces, "Camelot" tells a tale of the rise of power, looking to have it all, and the fear of losing what you have built so successfully.
