Mother Courage leads her offspring through a battle-scarred landscape loaded with death and devastation. Steering a wagon of wares, the family sells provisions to make ends meet. They manage to profit from the effects of war but soon discover that every conflict has a price.

Steppenwolf Extends GOOD PEOPLE Through 11/17

By popular demand, Steppenwolf Theatre Company extends the season opener, Good People by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. This "Four Star" (Chicago Tribune), "Highly Recommended" (Chicago-Sun-Times) production continues for five additional performances, through November 17, with the original cast of six intact. Tickets to the additional performances of Good People ($20 - $86) go on sale today, October 17 at 11am through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted), at 312-335-1650 or at steppenwolf.org.

Steppenwolf Announces Public Square Event With Sudhir Venkatesh, 11/4

What does it take to make it to the top? Hard work? Pure luck? A trust fund? Audiences are diving into these questions nightly at Steppenwolf Theatre Company's current hit production of Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Two days before the 2012 presidential election, Steppenwolf hosts Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room, a deeper conversation about the relationship between class, privilege and success featuring Sudhir Venkatesh, award-winning author, professor at Columbia University and Freakonomics contributor, who will share his insights with Steppenwolf Artistic Director Martha Lavey. Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room is on November 4, 2012 at 7pm in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Tickets ($20) go on sale October 12 at 11am through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted), at 312-335-1650 or at steppenwolf.org. The University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance has a long tradition of producing successful show business professionals. This fall, six esteemed alums are returning to the university to pay tribute to the program that helped launch their careers.

Rehearsals began this week at Steppenwolf Theatre Company for the 2012/13 season opener, Good People, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire's surprising, humorous and deeply moving tale of a modern American story set in economically opposed South Boston and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Ensemble member K. Todd Freeman directs Lindsay-Abaire's Steppenwolf debut, featuring ensemble members Alana Arenas, Mariann Mayberry and Molly Regan. Good People begins previews September 13, with an opening night slated for September 23, and runs through November 11, 2012, in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre. Jeffrey Bean, James Belcher and More Set for NOVEMBER at Alley Theatre, Now thru 9/23

Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for the Alley Theatre's production of November. November features Alley Theatre Resident Actors Jeffrey Bean as President Charles Smith, James Belcher as The Representative of the National Association of Turkey and Turkey Products, Elizabeth Bunch as Clarice Bernstein, David Rainey as Dwight Grackle, and Todd Waite as Archer Brown. November, by David Mamet and directed by Sanford Robbins, begins performances tonight, August 24, opens officially Wednesday, August 29, and runs through Sunday, September 23 on the Neuhaus Stage.

UH Stage Management Students Taking Talents Nationwide

The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance has long produced successful acting talents. Thanks to the school's stage management program, it's also launching the careers of behind-the-scenes stars.In 2011, the school began offering a concentration in stage management for students pursuing a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) in theater. Next summer, the school will graduate its first stage management BFA student, while several others recently took their talents to theater companies across the country.

THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN Arrives at UH, 4/20-29

There's not much to do on the Irish island of Inishmaan. To pass the time, some folks stare at cows, talk to stones or await the daily dose of gossip at the general store. When a Hollywood film crew begins shooting a movie nearby, the Inishmaan islanders finally have a diversion from their everyday lives. For resident "Cripple" Billy Claven, however, a role in the film offers an opportunity to escape Inishmaan and rise above his disability.
