One of the most popular movie musicals adapted for the stage, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has enjoyed several notable regional productions in the past few seasons, and the Ogunquit Playhouse's current staging demonstrates once again the nostalgic appeal of this sweet and folksy romantic tale set in America's pioneer days. The Kasha/Landay/Mercer/DePaul/Hirschhorn 1954 movie musical based on a Stephen Vincent Benet story, though it proved a disappointment when first adapted for the musical theatre stage in 1982, seems in the turbulent first decades of the 21st century to have struck chords in audiences who may hunger for the innocence and vibrant energy at its core.

Music Theatre Wichita continues its 45th summer season with an innovative, large-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! at Century II Concert Hall in downtown Wichita, KS.

The world premiere of the new musical ANASTASIA, starring Christy Altomare and Derek Klena, opened May 27 at Hartford Stage. The show plays through June 19. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you a look inside opening night!

Casting is announced today for Music Theatre Wichita's 45th Season, which includes Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!," "Jesus Christ Superstar," and the regional premieres of "Nice Work If You Can Get It" and "Mamma Mia!"  

Anastasia will be led by Christy Altomare and Derek Klena. Klena and Altomare have worked together before in the revised production of CARRIE off-Broadway, directed by ALLEGIANCE's Stafford Arima. Today we're looking back on that production with a video of Altomare and Klena singing 'You Shine' from the CARRIE cast recording release event.

Hartford Stage Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak has officially announced an electrifying cast of Broadway veterans for the premiere of the new musical ANASTASIA, which is inspired by the real life of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and the enduring mystery of her true identity. ANASTASIA plays May 12 through June 12, 2016.

ALLEGIANCE plays its final performance on Broadway today, February 14, 2016. Performances began at the Longacre Theatre on October 6, 2015, and the production officially opened on November 8, 2015. At the time of its closing, the musical will have played 37 previews and 113 regular performances, and will have been seen by approximately 120,000 people, a number that eerily echoes the number of Japanese Americans who were directly impacted by the events that inspired the show. Sing Out, Louise! The original cast album of the new musical Allegiance, with music & lyrics by Jay Kuo, was recorded last month at MSR Studios and is available digitally today, January 29, 2016. 

Sing Out, Louise! Productions and ATA have announced that the new American musical Allegiance has partnered with Omaze, the fundraising platform that gives you the opportunity to win once-in-a-lifetime experiences while donating to great causes. For a chance to win, fans can donate $10 or more to Takei Over The Town with George Takei and raise money for students to attend performances of Allegiance through Inspire Change. The winner will fly to New York City and kick off the evening by having dinner with George, receive VIP tickets to Allegiance and meet the cast. This just in! Sing Out, Louise! Productions and ATA have announced that the new American musical Allegiance will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Performances began at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street) on October 6, 2015 and the production officially opened on November 8, 2015. At the time of its closing it will have played 37 previews and 113 regular performances. Producers also announced a national tour and international productions are in the works. Allegiance had its world premiere in a record-breaking engagement at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in 2012.
