Ravinia Fest Announces 75th Anniversary of CSO's Summer Residency in 2011

Ravinia President and CEO Welz Kauffman and Music Director James Conlon today announced details of the festival's 2011 Chicago Symphony Orchestra programming, which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the CSO's summer residency. Running from July 7 through August 19, the 17-concert residency showcases the variety and versatility of the mighty ensemble with a world premiere, timeless classic repertoire, superstar virtuosos, two movie nights, a complete opera, two major commissions and a multi-layered celebration of the 200th birthday of composer/pianist Franz Liszt.

Dukakis And Scott To Guest At Shakespeare & Company's 15th Annual Studio Festival of Plays

Shakespeare & Company Artistic Director Tony Simotes today announced the titles for the popular, 15th annual Studio Festival of Plays. The annual Festival is a mini-marathon of plays new to the Company running ONE DAY ONLY in Founders' Theatre on Monday, September 7 beginning at 11:30 am and running through 11pm. Seven productions featuring Company actors and special guest actors will be presented throughout the day as works-in-progress and staged readings. A special Benefit reading of William Bigelow's new play, Leap Year, featuring Olympia Dukakis and directed by Simotes, will kick off the Festival series a week early on Monday, August 31st at 7:00pm .

For one night only, Broadway's brightest stars will sing 'Songs from an Era, from Gershwin to Ellington' to benefit The Broadway Experience scholarship fund. Spend one romantic evening and go back in time to hear the songs of days gone by sung by some of the industries top performers including Michelle Blakely, Brenda Braxton, Tituss Burgess, Robert Creighton, Jonathan Freeman, Norm Lewis and TONY award winner Lillias White.

Gershwin at One Symphony Place, a one-hour version of the Nashville Symphony's all-Gershwin gala concert from last September, will broadcast beginning March 26 on PBS stations across the U.S. Nashville Public Television (Channel 8) is scheduled to run the program at 9 p.m. (CDT) on Thursday, March 26. Gershwin will also be available in High Definition locally on NPT-HD (Comcast cable channel 240, Charter cable channel 708 and over-the-air with a digital tuner.)
