Gogol Project - Two workshop performances of Rogue Artists Ensemble's newest theatrical adventure pave the way for a full production in the fall. Audiences will be treated to an early, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the collaborative process involved in bringing three of Nikolai Gogol's most famous short stories - Diary of a Madman, The Overcoat and The Nose - to Hyper-theatrical life using the Rogues' signature mix of live actors, puppetry, masks and digital projection.

The Artists Theatre Group is presenting an invitation-only stage reading of a new musical, Republic, by Dylan Glatthorn, who wrote both music and lyrics for the score and co-authored the book on Monday, April 13, at the Acorn Theatre in the Theatre Row Complex (410 West 42nd St.) at 7 PM. The backdrop of the musical is the events that lead up to the revolution that made Ireland a free nation.

On February 18 and 19, La MaMa will host an open house, 'New Voices Heard,' featuring a sampling of eight plays that were developed during the summer of 2008 in the La MaMa Umbria International Playwrights Retreat. This free event will take place at La MaMa La Galleria, 6 East First Street, Manhattan (between Second Avenue and Bowery), Manhattan. Admission is free. Excerpts of eight plays will be presented. Seven will be staged readings and one will be fully acted.

Theo Ubique Theatre Co. (in association with Michael James) presents another exciting new work with the Premiere of Belle Barth: If I Embarrass You, Tell Your Friends. This original musical reaches its first staged performance at the No Exit Café after highly noted workshop performances during the 2008 Stages Festival of New Musicals at Theatre Building Chicago. Clever original songs underscore funny and touching scenes from the life and bawdy, raucous humor of the 1950s iconic sensation, Belle Barth, who sold millions of records with her audacious 'too-blue-for-Ed-Sullivan' comedy that stood in acute contrast to prude and proper 1950's.

The comedy club and theatre collide in Diversity Players of Harlem's production of the Stage Play Die Laughing starring uptown Kevin Brown of NBC's 30 Rock. Performances will be at the Laugh Factory for two weeks from April 15 - April 27, 2008.

The no-holds-barred production of the classic stage musical Cabaret, which has been running at the No Exit Café in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, deserves many kudos for bringing this show to life. And what a life!
