It's the biggest night in London Theatre! The Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard - the most prestigious event in the UK's theatrical calendar - take place tonight at the Royal Opera House, hosted by Michael Ball. This year's list of Olivier Award nominees includes Gemma Arterton, Kenneth Branagh, Kenneth Cranham, Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Mark Gatiss, Denise Gough, Preeya Kalidas, Nicole Kidman, Adrian Lester, Lara Pulver, Mark Rylance, Imelda Staunton, Tom Sturridge and David Suchet.

Newton will be taking on the role of Johnny from May 2016 after Matt Thorpe, who will open the role from 19 March at the Curve Theatre, Leicester until 7 May at the New Theatre, Oxford. One of the UK's finest contemporary singer-songwriters, Newton's unique style of guitar playing and soaring vocals have made him a worldwide success since he burst onto the music scene back in 2007.

Today in 1963, Oliver! opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 774 performances. Oliver! is a British musical, with script, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. Major London revivals played from 1994-1998 and again from 2008-2011.
Delta Goodrem to Star in Upcoming Australian Production of CATS

?Today the Producers of Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS announced the news that DELTA GOODREM will play the role of Grizabella in the Brisbane season of the acclaimed West End revival production of CATS commencing on Friday 29 January at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC. Ms Goodrem, who has starred in the production since its Sydney opening on Friday 30 October, will sing Memory, one of the most well-known songs of all time.

Opening on Saturday 23rd January 2016, tick, tick...BOOM! runs for 7 performances, closing on Saturday 30th, and RENT - Performed in Concert will take place on Sunday 24th & Monday 25th.

?I got pretty excited when I was reading over the list for the 2015 BWW:UK theatre nominations. My excitement was shortly followed by panic - what do you mean I can only pick one in each category?? For me, this last year has been outstanding in theatre and several new shows have become firm favourites of mine.
