The Flea to Premiere Adam Rapp's WOLF IN THE RIVER This March

Adam Rapp returns to The Flea with WOLF IN THE RIVER. Featuring members of The Bats, The Flea's resident acting company, WOLF IN THE RIVER is written and directed by Rapp. Previews start March 10, with opening night slated for Monday, March 21.

Alice Tuan's CALIFORNIA LOVE Set for Playwrights' Center

The Playwrights' Center presents two readings of Core Writer Alice Tuan's new play 'California Love' as part of the 2015-16 Ruth Easton New Play Series. The readings are Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Playwrights' Center, 2301 E. Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. The readings are free, but reservations are encouraged. Kim Davies' STET Added to Abingdon's 2015-16 Season

?Abingdon Theatre Company, in collaboration with The Muse Project, will present STET, a new play inspired by true events, written by Kim Davies and conceived by Kim Davies, Jocelyn Kuritsky and Artistic Director Tony Speciale. A limited Off-Broadway engagement will begin previews in June, as part of Abingdon's 2015-2016 Season. Tony Speciale is set to direct the world-premiere production, which marks his inaugural programming as Artistic Director.

The Flea Premieres BUT I CD ONLY WHISPER; Begins Previews Feb. 18

The Flea Theater presents the New York premiere of Kristiana Colon's but i cd only whisper, directed by Resident Director David Monteagudo and featuring members of The Bats, The Flea's resident acting company. Previews start February 18, with opening night slated for Monday, February 29.

Lineup Announced for 'Festival of the Emerging Musical' in Philadelphia

The University of the Arts' Ira Brind School of Theater Arts announces the 2016 lineup for Polyphone, a "festival of the emerging musical" on the UArts campus in Philadelphia.  Running March 20-27, the 2016 the Polyphone festival produces staged concerts of new musicals and re-imagined canonical works offering professional composers, librettists and directors an opportunity to develop their work among the rich creative community of the Brind School at UArts.  The festival will program five musicals, including both classical and new works, with three performances each.  

Adam Rapp's WOLF IN THE RIVER & More Set for The Flea's Spring 2016 Season

Niegel Smith, Artistic Director and Carol Ostrow, Producing Director of The Flea Theater announced today the slate for the spring season, featuring two World Premieres and one US Premiere. Continuing a long-standing relationship with The Flea, Adam Rapp will be returning with Wolf in the River, which he also directs. The Flea is also excited to welcome two new playwrights, Kristiana Colon and Sarah Gancher. Gancher's The Place We Built will be directed by Flea Resident Director Danya Taymor while Colon's but I cd only whisper will be directed by Resident Director David Monteagudo.

The Flea Premieres TAKE CARE, Previews Begin Dec 1

The Flea Theater presents TAKE CARE, by Niegel Smith and Todd Shalom. This world premiere production marks Smith's directorial debut at his new artistic home and will feature The Bats, the resident acting company at the Flea. Previews start December 1 with Opening Night slated for Sunday, December 6.

BWW Review: What is THE HAPPY SAD at Convergence-Continuum

Tyson Douglas Rand, director of THE HAPPY SAD now in production at convergence-continuum, in his program notes for the show, states, 'What is THE HAPPY SAD? Well...it's a play with music - but it's not a musical. It's a funny play about romance and relationships - but it's NOT a romantic comedy.' He goes on to state, 'It's not a series of problems and solutions. It is a journey of discovery.'

Stable Cable Lab Co. to Stage Max Baker's BECAUSE ME at The Wild Project, 10/29-11/7

Stable Cable Lab Co. will present Max Baker's un-romantic comedy, Because Me. The production will play a limited engagement at the Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street between Avenues A and B) October 28-November 7. Performances will be October 29, 30, & 31, November 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 at 7:30pm, Saturday, October 31 & November 7 at 2pm, and Monday, November 2 at 1pm. InViolet Theater Company's SOMMERFUGL Begins Next Month

InViolet Theater Company, under the direction of Founding Co-Artistic Directors Michael Henry Harris and Angela Razzano, In association with Melanie Maras, Bryan Tallevi and Andrea Kiefer have announced the off-off Broadway run of SOMMERFUGL, a new play written by Bixby Elliot inspired by the true story of Lili Elbe, the first person to have gender reassignment surgery in 1930. BWW Review: TEAR IT OFF, a Romance Novel Comes Alive at convergence-continuum

Book buyers spend an estimated $1.08 billion dollars each year purchasing romance novels. Since 1972 when Avon printed Kathleen Woodiwiss's 'The Flame And The Flower,' supposedly the first U.S. published book of that genre, almost 55% of all paperbacks sold in the U.S. have centered on romantic relationships with optimistic endings, whose covers usually feature a handsome buff man saving a helpless woman. These types of stories also dominate E-book downloads.

SENSE OF AN ENDING to Make US Premiere at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters will welcome kef theatrical productions with SENSE OF AN ENDING, written by Ken Urban and directed by Adam Fitzgerald. SENSE OF AN ENDING begins performances on Thursday, August 20 for a limited engagement through Sunday, September 6.
