The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

Following its Broadway run, Ayad Akhtar's Pulitzer Prize winning play DISGRACED will soon be heading to HBO.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the Pulitzer Prize winning play Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Lyceum Theatre, 149 West 45th Street. As of that date, it will have played 149 performances and 27 previews. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, Disgraced received Obie and Joseph Jefferson Awards. The producers of Cinderella announced today that television and film star Fran Drescher will make her Broadway debut as Cinderella's stepmother Madame, beginning performances on February 4th for a 10-week run through April 13 at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway). Ms. Drescher takes over the role created by Harriet Harris, who concludes her acclaimed year-long run in the musical to return to her home in California.

The producers of RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA have announced that three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker will join the cast on Broadway as Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, Marie, starting September 6 through January 19, 2014. Ms. Luker takes over the role from Victoria Clark, who will leave CINDERELLA temporarily for a new project (to be announced), returning to the musical on January 21.
