Triumphant Mikado Returns to Adelaide after National Tour

After a hugely successful whirlwind tour of country regions in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales, the 2016 Mikado troupe, comprising performers from both Co-Opera and the G&S Society, return to Adelaide for a short season of six performances only at the Adelaide Showground. Bookings are now open for this joyful G&S romp. Seating is cabaret style and byo refreshments and food.

Houston Grand Opera Announces 2016–17 HGO Studio Artists

After an international search, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has chosen three new singers and one new pianist/coach for the 2016-17 HGO Studio. The artists are Yelena Dyachek, soprano, the Ana Maria Martinez Encouragement Award recipient at Concert of Arias 2016;  Zoie Reams, mezzo-soprano, the second-place prize winner at Concert of Arias 2016;  Sol Jin, baritone, the Audience Choice Award winner at Concert of Arias 2016; and Peter Walsh, pianist/coach. One of the most respected and highly competitive young artist programs in the world, the HGO Studio provides comprehensive career development to young singers, pianist/coaches, and conductors who have demonstrated potential to make major contributions to the field of opera. The HGO Studio received applications from 475 artists; of those, about 275 were heard in auditions in Houston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles. For singers, the audition process culminates in HGO's annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, held this year on February 4.

NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players' 2015-16 Season to Include THE MIKADO, PRINCESS IDA & More

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America's preeminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory company, adds another welcome dose of joyous 'topsy-turvy' satire to the 2015-16 New York theatrical scene when it kicks off its 41st season November 7 with a roster of G &S favorites including the political fairytale Iolanthe (November 7 & 8), a holiday run of the much loved The Mikado (December 26 - January 2, 2016); and a limited spring run of the chauvinist spoof Princess Ida (May 21 & 22, 2016) --- all taking place at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place). In addition to the mainstage season, the season will also feature the company's Bistro Award winning production, where G&S meets Broadway, entitled I've Got a Little TWIST! The Toronto Operetta Theatre's 30th Season continues with a holiday production of Gilbert and Sullivan's most beloved masterpiece, THE MIKADO. The performances will be at theSt. Lawrence Centre today, December 27, 28 (mat), 31 (New Year's Eve Gala), 2014 and January 2, 3, 4, (mat),2015. Evening performances are at 8 pm and matinees are at 2pm. Derek Bate leads a stellar cast, chorus and orchestra with stage direction by TOT General Director, Guillermo Silva-Marin.

Director Thom Southerland, who wowed critics and public alike with award-winning, sold out productions of Titanic, Parade and Mack & Mabel, is next directing a radically re-conceived version of Gilbert & Sullivan's best-loved operetta, The Mikado.
