BWW Review: ACT Negotiates a Stunningly Solid Piece with OSLO
by Jay Irwin - Oct 19, 2018

In 1993 a few Norwegian politicians managed the impossible, to get the Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate a peace. What sounds even more impossible is that they all kept it secret. Now this may not sound like the riveting topic for a three-hour play but what J.T. Rogers' 'Oslo', currently playing at ACT, does it to go beyond the facts of the accords and examines the humanity that made the accords possible and that kind of conflict makes for a tense and often times funny piece presented with a stunning ensemble from ACT.

BWW Review: All-Women CORIOLANUS: FIGHT LIKE A BITCH at 12th Ave Arts Kicks Ass
by Amelia Reynolds - Oct 24, 2017

Rebel Kat did such a good job with the adaptation of 'Coriolanus' (one of Shakespeare's rarely performed later works) that it does not feel like an adaptation at all. Nay, director Emily Penick improves upon the original with a fierce cast consisting entirely of women. What's more, 'Coriolanus: Fight Like a Bitch' has all of the pronouns switched so that the actors performing in the show get to play female characters. Unlike Shakespeare's 'Coriolanus', which, ultimately, is a play about high-ranking men clawing and back-stabbing their way to attain political power (boring!), 'Coriolanus: Fight Like a Bitch' flips the script on a gendered political system. Finally, women get to be power-hungry monsters!

CORIOLANUS: FIGHT LIKE A BITCH Announces Cast
by A.A. Cristi - Aug 10, 2017

To live like a legend... sometimes you have to fight like a bitch. The country is at war, and the Senate cannot keep the peace within its own walls--- let alone on the battlefield. Enter Coriolanus: the country's most famous badass warrior. She returns home to face the greatest battle yet: to win the love of the people & run for office--- or face the dangerous consequences of defying society's expectations. CORIOLANUS, the rarely produced play by William Shakespeare about politics, power, and pride, is packed with daring physical combat and deliciously vicious language.

BWW Reviews: Arouet Gets Bleak with NINE and THE LONG ROAD
by Jay Irwin - Mar 1, 2015

Arouet is currently presenting two very dark and bleak one act plays with "Nine" and "The Long Road". Now don't get me wrong. Bleak and dark can work as long as they engage and don't preach. Unfortunately only one of these plays somewhat manages that. But we'll get to that in a minute.

BWW Reviews: Faustian Silliness in Arouet's DON JUAN IN CHICAGO
by Jay Irwin - May 30, 2014

I must apologize, Dear Readers, for getting this one to you so late. But alas when the Mothership beckons I must go. Unfortunately it meant me coming late to the party that is Arouet's production of David Ives' 'Don Juan in Chicago' which leaves you only two more chances to see this hilarious production, which I urge you to do. Some beautiful direction and a killer ensemble make this bit of Ives' deliciousness even more fun.

Arouet Presents DON JUAN IN CHICAGO Tonight
by BWW News Desk - May 16, 2014

Taking place in both 16th-century Seville and modern-day Chicago, David Ives' Don Juan in Chicago blends the classic stories of Don Juan and Faust. In this new creation, Don Juan sells his soul to the devil to live forever and to discover the meaning of life through knowledge... but he'll also have to learn the art of seduction. A rip-roaring, fast-paced comedy in prose and verse, this play explores the emotions that can be attached to both love and sex.
