Like so many facets of our society brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic, the theatre industry currently finds itself at this terrifying impasse. Despite steep reservations and an unclear understanding of what constitutes risk for employees and audiences alike, many arts institutions have begun weighing their options when it comes to how and when to resume operations.
Election results are in! Actors Equity Association members have voted and Kate Shindle will remain the National President of the organization. Dee Hoty will serve as Eastern Regional Vice President and Kelley Faulkner as Central Regional Vice President.
Actors' Equity has invited members to attend an open discussion regarding racial injustice and anti-Black practices in the theatre industry. This conversation will be hosted by Equal Employment Opportunity Committee Vice Chairs E. Faye Butler, Barbara Roberts and Allyson Tucker.
This morning, Actors' Equity Association President Kate Shindle joined other entertainment union professionals to speak to how they are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kate Shindle has released the following statement in response to Nikki Haley's tweet, in which Haley wonders why the arts deserve aid during the COVID-19 pandemic:
Actors' Equity Association has announced that public health expert Dr. David Michaels will consult for the union, effective immediately to help develop new model health and safety standards for COVID-19.
