BWW Recap: 'Broadway Winners' with Baldwin, Kudisch, Gemignani and More!

With a title like Broadway Winners, and the simple concept of presenting songs from award-winning musicals (or songs that have won Grammys or Oscars in their own right), it's a fairly safe bet that a concert is going to be pretty damn great. And so it was at Town Hall on Monday, when Scott Siegel's Summer Cabaret Festival kicked off with the latest edition of the concert series. Directed by Alexander Gemignani and with musical direction by David Hahn, the concert focused on musical triumphs, and that sense of accomplishment carried across the evening as each song's pedigree was announced.

Presented on three consecutive Monday nights in July at 8PM are BROADWAY WINNERS: THE AWARD-WINNING MUSIC OF BROADWAY! on July 12th, BROADWAY'S RISING STARS on July 19th, and ALL SINGIN' ALL DANCIN' on July 26th. On Monday, July 26, The New York Civil Liberties Union will present their annual Broadway Stands Up for Freedom Concert, supporting the youth programs of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Hosted and musical directed by Seth Rudetsky, the starry line-up of performers includes: Nellie McKay (The Threepenny Opera), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins), J. Robert Spencer (Next to Normal), Kate Baldwin (Finian's Rainbow), Carrie Manolakos (Mamma Mia), De'Adre Aziza (Passing Strange), Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys), Dana Steingold (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Liana Stampur and Clinton Curtis and performers from the cast of Hair and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM Cast Recording Gets 8/31 Release

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, PS Classics, the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, recorded the original Broadway cast album of SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM on June 6th and 7th. The production, presented by Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), began performances at Studio 54 on March 19th, opened officially on April 22nd and will close on June 27th. Today, it has been announced that the album will be available beginning August 31, 2010 in both online and retail outlets.
The track list has now been unveiled on Amazon.com.

The production, presented by Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), began performances at Studio 54 on March 19th, opened officially on April 22nd and will close on June 27th.

The Westport Country playhouse has announced that Lewis Cleale will join the previously announced Kate Baldwin in their production of I DO! I DO! The production will run from August 10 to August 28.

PS Classics will release a recording of 'Life Begins at 8:40' on June 8. The Harold Arlen, Ira Gershwin and Yip Harburg collabrative revue was presented in concert at The Library Of Congress on March 22 with Kate Baldwin, Montego Glover, Philip Chaffin, Christopher Fitzgerald, Rebecca Luker, Brad Oscar, Graham Rowat, Jessica Stone and Faith Prince. Both the concert and the recording were conducted by Aaron Grandy.

PS Classics' release of 'Life Begins at 8:40' is now available for pre-order purchase on psclassics.com and ITunes! The CD will be available in stores on June 8. The Harold Arlen, Ira Gershwin and Yip Harburg collabrative revue was presented in concert at The Library of Congress on March 22 with Kate Baldwin, Montego Glover, Philip Chaffin, Christopher Fitzgerald, Rebecca Luker, Brad Oscar, Graham Rowat, Jessica Stone and Faith Prince.
