After a sold-out engagement in 2013, musician, actress and producer Rita Wilson will return to Feinstein's at the Nikko for two performances only - Friday, April 1 (8 p.m.) and Saturday, April 2 (7 p.m.) - as part of a 20+ city sprint 2016 tour to promote her second studio album - self-titled 'Rita Wilson,' a collection of original songs that she co-wrote.
The replacement star. One of the trickiest and most problematic facets of any production facing an enterprising producer and director is casting a fitting replacement, particularly for a star role. Of course, John Kander and Fred Ebb's vaudeville-based performance opportunity extravaganza CHICAGO allows for a copious amount of star turns, so the likely candidates for filling the famous shoes of the roles of Roxie, Velma, Billy Flynn and Matron Mama Morton are nearly overwhelming to consider. Furthermore, August 8 marked the momentous day in Broadway history when legendary Broadway and Hollywood superstar Liza Minnelli famously stepped in for an ailing Gwen Verdon in the original Bob Fosse production of CHICAGO on Broadway. Now, with notable pop star Brandy Norwood as the current Roxie and reality competition show standout Rumer Willis poised to take over in early September giving a slew of fresh buzz to one of Broadway's longest-running musicals of all time, the 1996 revival of CHICAGO, now is an ideal time to consider some familiar faces who have excelled in the role in the past and could continue the tradition and keep the momentum going for a production that has now played nearly 8,000 performances on the Great White Way. Time may have marched on, but these ladies certainly still have the stuff!
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Broadway's Dylis Croman, who returns to the national tour of CHICAGO next week, as the fame-obsessed merry murderess, Roxie Hart. With five Broadway shows under her belt, and several national tours, Ms. Croman returns to Texas, having graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Ms. Croman is also no stranger to the musical CHICAGO; she's performed in the show alongside the likes of Billy Ray Cyrus, Bebe Neuwirth, Kara DioGuardi and John O'Hurley, to name a few.
Extraordinary new singer-songwriter Taylor Berrett will be releasing his debut album, Great Falls, on March 10, 2015, via Warner Bros. Records. The album embodies songwriting at its finest, with great artists like Paul Simon and Billy Joel as inspiration and Taylor's uniquely fun, uplifting, and poignant style at the heart. He's already garnered heavy-hitting comparisons to John Mayer and Jason Mraz from Seventeen Magazine, and has MTV Buzzworthy saying, 'His vocals are so heartfelt, you can't help but be sucked in.'

The cliche with actors is that they all 'really just want to direct,' and while there is little doubt that Rita Wilson would probably be great at that too, her career has seen her seamlessly bounce between roles as an actress, producer, and singer and back again. Always looking to conquer another professional hurdle, Wilson is set to follow in the footsteps of the late Elaine Stritch, and set up shop at the famed Cafe Carlyle in New York's Upper East Side for two weeks, starting this Wednesday.
The actress/producer/singer Rita Wilson makes her Cafe Carlyle debut in a two-week engagement, September 24 - October 4. She and a band including musical director Andrew Doolittle (guitar, background vocals), Alex Navarro (piano, keyboards, background vocals), Lee Nadel (bass) and Rich Mercurio (drums) will perform songs from Wilson's forthcoming second album with original material due out in early 2015, as well as selections from her collection of classics, AM/FM.
