Discovery Channel announced today that actor, producer, and civil servant Kal Penn will serve as host of its new competition series 'The Big Brain Theory.' Penn, who starred in the hit film franchise 'Harold & Kumar' as well as worked in the White House, began taping episodes earlier this week at WET in Los Angeles. The series, set to debut in the spring of 2013, will feature a seemingly impossible engineering challenge to be solved by the contestants each week.
