Girl Be Heard to Honor Danai Gurira and Fran Hauser at 2016 GOTTA LOVE GIRLS GALA

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Girl Be Heard, the girl-led global movement and theatre collective, will honor Danai Gurira and Fran Hauser with the prestigious Fairy Godmother Award at their Gotta Love Girls Gala in New York City. The award, presented annually to two women for their outstanding work as advocates for girls and women around the world, will be bestowed and celebrated among an evening of music, dancing, and theatre.

Women's Project Theater Begins Nationwide Hunt for New Artistic Director

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Women's Project Theater is going through some major changes. A national search has begun for a new Artistic Director to lead the company for the coming 2014-15 season and beyond. The new Artistic Director will succeed Julie Crosby, who recently departed the company as Producing Artistic Director, a position she held since 2006. During her tenure, Ms. Crosby led and nurtured the institution immeasurably, producing more than 25 plays by women playwrights and directors, and championing the careers of its alumnae lab artists.

Julie Crosby Leaves Women's Project Theatre; Additional Board Members Also Depart?

Women's Project Theater is going through some major changes. A recent blog by Howard Sherman indicates that Artistic Director Julie Crosby is now missing from the masthead and staff list on the theater's official website. According to Sherman, Crosby was not fired, but 'did not depart voluntarily.' Additionally, some other advisory board members have also resigned.

Veanne Cox and Doug Wamble lead a musical tribute to lyricist Dorothy Fields. Also on hand throughout the evening were presenters David Hyde Pierce and Stanley Zareff. Check out a look back below!

Rosie Benton (Stick Fly, Accent on Youth), Erik Lochtefeld, and P.J. Sosko play three Civil War re-enactors in the world premiere of Jessica Dickey's dark comedy, Row After Row, directed by Daniella Topol, Women's Project Theater's Producing Artistic Director Julie Crosby announced. Row After Row, which marks the 36th season of Women's Project Theater, begins previews Wednesday, January 15, at 7:30 for an opening Thursday, January 23, at 6:30pm at Women's Project Theater's home, New York City Center Stage II, 131 West 55th Street.

National Theatre Conference To Honor Nottage, Drury, and Oregon Shakespeare Fest at The Players Club, 12/6

The National Theatre Conference (NTC), an organization founded in 1925 that meets annually in New York to discuss relevant issues in today's theatre community and to celebrate outstanding achievement in the American theatre, has named the recipients of its 2013 awards. Playwright Lynn Nottage has been named Person of the Year; the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, under the artistic direction of Bill Rauch, is the recipient of the Theatre of the Year Award; and playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury has been selected as the winner of the Barrie and Bernice Stavis Playwright Award. All three will be honored and presented with their awards and hold discussions with the membership at The Players club during NTC's annual meeting in New York, December 6-8, 2013.
