The Sound of Music, the final collaboration of Musical Theater Gods Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, is quite possibly their most popular and most famous; judging by the current production by Zilker Theatre Productions it's easy to see why. The Sound of Music is a classic crowd-pleaser that the entire family can enjoy and appreciate.

Many consider THE SOUND OF MUSIC the greatest American musical. Others think of it as a sentimental piece of fluff. Whatever their view, few can sit and listen passively to the likes of such songs as My Favorite Things, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, and Maria. This is Rogers and Hammerstein at their best.

Today, July 30th, ABC Family launches 'Campus Crush,' the network's fourth annual 10-day long end of summer programming event filled with all-day marathons, movies and all-new episodes of its original series 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager,' 'Bunheads,' 'Beverly Hills Nannies,' 'Melissa & Joey,' 'Baby Daddy,' 'Pretty Little Liars' and the season finale of 'Jane By Design.'

Due to high demand from a wider age range of Eastside teens, Studio East will change its summer musical offering from Legally Blonde the Musical to the Tony award-winning Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The hills are alive as Surflight Theatre continues its 2012 season with The Sound of Music. Directed and choreographed by Charles Abbott, with music direction by Ben Krauss, The Sound of Music opens tonight, July 24 and runs through August 25, 2012. Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) (Jed Bernstein, Producing Director) will present their July Cabaret Series and "Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music" this weekend. Broadway and television actor Jason Kravits (Relatively Speaking, "The Practice") will host "Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music", a little over one week after what would have been Oscar Hammerstein II's 117th birthday, tonight, July 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Bucks County Playhouse (70 South Main Street). The presentation will be preceded by a special outdoor BBQ Style dinner hosted by Hamilton's Grill Room beginning at 5:00 p.m.

On Monday, August 13, Broadway at Birdland presents multi-Grammy and Tony-nominated composer Frank Wildhorn in his monthly concert series called "Frank & Friends." Joining Frank onstage will be Constantine Maroulis (upcoming star of Jekyll & Hyde), Laura Osnes (Tony nominee/Bonnie & Clyde and upcoming Cinderella), Melissa van der Schyff (Bonnie & Clyde) and Stark Sands (upcoming Kinky Boots).

Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music returns to Arts Centre Melbourne, State Theatre for three performances, tonight 20 & Saturday 21 July, 2012 7:30pm and a family friendly Matinee on Saturday 21 July at 1pm. The effervescent Chelsea Plumley returns to hosting duties to guide the audience through an interactive experience and tribute to the very unique film The Sound of Music.

Shana Farr is set to perform her accalimed show, 'Whistling Away the Dark: Through Songs of Julie Andrews' tonight, July 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the legendary Players Club, located at 16 Gramercy Park South. The performance is free and guests are welcome. Julie Andrews' biographer, Robert Windeler, will be joining Farr at this one-time-only performance.

BroadwayWorld.com and Broadway Records are co-sponsoring a liner notes essay contest for the new Jekyll & Hyde studio concept recording. Fans will have the opportunity to submit a 250 to 500 word essay for consideration. Five finalists will be chosen by the staff of BroadwayWorld.com in consultation with Broadway Records. Variety reports that Bradley Whitford is in early talks to join the cast of Disney's SAVING MR. BANKS. The actor would join previously announced cast members Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson on the film. John Lee Hancock will direct with a script by Kelly Marcel.

For over twenty-five years, the late Bradshaw Smith (Founder & Executive Producer of "Broadway Beat" and Applause Video) was the theater world's preeminent videographer, capturing over 1,000 performances on Broadway, off-Broadway, in cabaret halls and beyond that now, because of him, live on today. Bradshaw Smith died on January 16, 2012, at age 57, following a sudden and severe stroke. To conclude the intimate memorial, Bradshaw's longtime friend and editor, Jonathan Frank, compiled the best of Bradshaw's work as a video artist.
