Due to high demand from a wider age range of Eastside teens, Studio East will change its summer musical offering from Legally Blonde the Musical to the Tony award-winning Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz – a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. Based on the 1967 film starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore (which was nominated for seven Academy Awards) this opened on Broadway in 2002 and consequently won six Tony Awards including the Tony Award for Best Musical.

There are four performances of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Kirkland Performance Center tonight, July 27 – July 29, 2012. Showtimes are tonight, July 27 & tomorrow night, July 28 at 7:30 pm and July 28 and 29 at 2:30 pm. It is recommended for ages 8 and up. Tickets are $16 and available at http://www.kpcenter.org/performances/legally-blonde Kirkland Performance Center is located at 350 Kirkland Ave. in Kirkland, Wash.
