BWW Review: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at San Francisco Ballet Enchants & Delights

We may be in the doldrums of winter right now – with nippy temperatures, dark skies and some much-needed rain – but January also means that San Francisco Ballet (SFB) is back in season for the next several months and, to me, that signifies all’s right with the world. SFB is kicking off its 2021 digital season exactly where it left off last March, when the remainder of its 2020 season was abruptly cancelled for obvious reasons. The company presented an enchanting new production of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream only to have the curtain come down on opening night to the news that the just-ended performance would be its last for the season.

San Francisco Ballet to Welcome New Company Members and Promotions!

Effective immediately, San Francisco Ballet announces six promotions, five new Company members, and five apprentices for the 2017 Season. Soloist Carlo Di Lanno has been promoted to principal dancer and Francisco Mungamba, Julia Rowe, Wei Wang, and WanTing Zhao have been promoted to soloist. In addition, former SF Ballet Apprentice Blake Kessler has been appointed a member of the corps de ballet. New members of the Company's corps de ballet include Ludmila Bizalion, Elizabeth Mateer, and Natasha Sheehan; Angelo Greco joins as a soloist and Aaron Robison as a principal dancer. Alexandre Cagnat, Shene Lazarus, Davide Occhipinti, Nathaniel Remez, and Isabella Walsh of the SF Ballet School Trainee Program have been promoted to the rank of apprentice.

The eclectic influences of Oregon Ballet Theatre's final season performance give retiring dancer Anne Mueller a chance to showcase her wit and range in four short works from choreographers (Balanchine, Fonte, McIntyre and Stowell) who have been instrumental to her career and the development of OBT's repertoire.
