Irish Rep's PORT AUTHORITY Opens Tonight Off-Broadway

Off-Broadway's award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre launches its 27th Theatre Season with a revival of Conor McPherson's PORT AUTHORITY, directed by Ciaran O'Reilly. The production, which features Billy Carter, Peter Maloney, and James Russell, opens tonight, October 2nd. The production is scheduled to be performed through Sunday, November 16th.

Jen Silverman's THE MOORS to Continue Irish Rep's Reading Series, 7/28

The Irish Repertory Theatre, which 'encourages the development of works focusing on the Irish and Irish American experience, as well as a range of other cultures,' continues the eighth season of its Reading Series with Jen Silverman's play The Moors, directed by Jackson Gay. The reading will take place on Monday, July 28 at 3pm on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage of the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 W. 22nd Street). The reading is FREE and open to the public. Broadway In Chicago has announced that Jonah Rawitz of Buffalo Grove, IL (Adlai E. Stevenson High School), representing the Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards, was awarded the coveted Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Broadway's Minskoff Theater. The Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress was presented to Jai'Len Josey, representing the Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards -- Shuler Hensley Awards.

Ryan McCartan, 2011 Jimmy Award winner, will host the 2-hour talent showcase that features dynamic ensemble and solo performances.

McCartan recently starred as JD in the Off-Broadway hit musical, Heathers, appears regularly as Diggy in Liv & Maddie on the Disney Channel, and is a recurring character on the USA Network's Royal Pains. The event will be held at the Minskoff Theatre (200 W. 45th St) and begins at 7:30 pm.

Trinidad Ramkissoon Wins Boston August Wilson Monologue Competition

Trinidad Ramkissoon of Boston Day and Evening Academy took first place on Saturday with his performance as Troy from Fences at the Boston Finals of the August Wilson Monologue Competition, held for the fourth year by the Huntington Theatre Company, the playwright's longtime artistic home. Fatima Barry ('Rose,' Fences) of Boston Adult Technical Academy was named first runner-up; Ashley Herbert ('Black Mary,' Gem of the Ocean) of Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers was named second runner-up. The three will compete in the competition's National Finals at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre on Saturday, May 5.
