zoe | juniper's BEGINAGAIN Makes NYC Debut at 3-Legged Dog This Weekend

3-Legged Dog has announced that it is partnering with The Joyce Theater for the NYC premiere of BEGINAGAIN, a new technology infused dance experience by the acclaimed Seattle-based zoe | juniper, which is part of JOYCE UNLEASHED. Conceived, designed and directed by Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey, with choreography by Zoe Scofield and visual design by Juniper Shuey, BEGINAGAIN opens tonight, May 8 for a limited engagement through Saturday, May 10.

Pierre Rigal & compagnie derniere minute to Present MICRO at The Joyce Theater, 5/13-18

The Joyce Theater will present Pierre Rigal and his company, compagnie derniere minute, founded in 2003, from May 13-18. For this Joyce debut engagement, Rigal and his company of four musicians and dancers will perform the U.S. premiere of the evening-length work Micro. The Joyce to Present Christopher Wheeldon's ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, 9/9-14

The Joyce Theater Foundation and The National Ballet of Canada are proud to present the New York premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's acclaimed production of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at the David H. Koch Theater from September 9 - 14, 2014. This production, which had its world premiere by the Royal Ballet at London's Royal Opera House in 2011 and its North American premiere by the National Ballet in Toronto in 2011, will be the fourth Joyce Theater presentation at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater following the just completed New York premiere of Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White (April 23-27, 2014). According to The New York Times, The Joyce Theater Foundation and the National Ballet of Canada plan to announce the New York premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The ballet is set to an original score by Joby Talbot and the costumes and set designs are by Bob Crowley. The production will run from Sept. 9 to 14 at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center.

Wendy Whelan to Leave New York City Ballet This Fall; Joins New York City Center for Two-Year Residency

Wendy Whelan, whom The New York Times has called 'America's greatest contemporary ballerina,' has danced with New York City Ballet for nearly 30 years. With the company, she has mastered Balanchine's neo-classical repertory, dance classics such as Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake and created works with many of today's leading choreographers. Following hip surgery and a successful recovery period, Whelan, 46, will return to City Ballet this spring season and will dance her final performance with the company on October 18.

The Joyce's Gala will take place on the Promenade of the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center on Tuesday April 22 at 6pm. The black-tie event, celebrating The Joyce's commitment to arts education, will include cocktails, dinner, dancing and special performances by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Jessica Lang Dance, doug elkins choreography Etc., Momix and the talented young performers of Dancing Classrooms Youth Dance Company. Wendy Whelan Postpones RESTLESS CREATURE U.S. Tour

Following hip surgery that took place just one week after the August 14, 2013 premiere of her Restless Creature, Wendy Whelan, in consultation with her doctors, has concluded that her body needs more time to heal and that she must postpone her spring 2014 (March 16 – April 11) inaugural U.S. tour of the work. Rescheduled dates will be announced at a later time. See below for a list of postponed engagements. The UK premiere, presented by The Royal Opera House, will take place at the Linbury Studio Theatre in London as scheduled (July 22–26).

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. will present a three week showcase of Brazilian dance from February 26 - March 16. Three Brazilian-based companies will be making their Joyce Theater debuts during the festival: Mimulus Companhia de Danca (Belo Horizonte) from February 24-March 1; Companhia Urbana de Danca (Rio de Janeiro) from March 3-6, a co-presentation with 651 ARTS; and Focus Cia de Danca (Rio de Janeiro) from March 8-10. These acclaimed companies will be joined by audience favorite DanceBrazil, closing out the festival from March 12-16.
