The Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) Creative Writing Conservatory commemorates its 20th anniversary with a?oe20/20/20: Legends of Steampunk,a?? a month-long festival dedicated to the special vision of James P. Blaylock and Tim Powers. Recognized as fathers of the steampunk genre in literature, Blaylock and Powers also left a mark as the founders of the Creative Writing Conservatory at OCSA. Aligning with OCSA's 20th anniversary at its campus in Santa Ana, the festival features 20 collaborative events involving students from across 13 conservatories including acting, classical voice, dance, musical theatre, production and design, and digital media.

In addition to the school's 16 arts conservatories, these unique programs provide students the opportunity to learn from real-world experts in a variety of industries. This season's Master Artist Series kicked off with a culinary arts master class with internationally celebrated chef, Jet Tila, who is a best-selling author and host on a?oeIron Chef America.a??

Over its 34 year history, the Contest has recognized 404 winners who have gone on to publish 1,150 novels and 4,450 short stories. Of these, 192 are still active with a writing career-that's over 40%. Twelve of these Contest winners have gone on to become NYT bestselling authors: Dave Wolverton (aka David Farland), Sean Williams, Jo Beverly, Nancy Farmer, Lisa Smedman, Karen Joy Fowler, Patrick Rothfuss, Tim Myers, Eric Flint, Dean Wesley Smith, Tobias Buckell and Elizabeth Wein. And Contest Winners have garnered 155 major awards. Collectively, the winners of the contests have sold over 60 million books over the years.

Ron Hubbard Awards for winners of the internationally-acclaimed Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests will be held in Los Angeles at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on Sunday, April 13th and contest organizers announced today that Mark Lefebvre of Kobo, Inc. will speak at the event on the future of publishing.

Brad Torgersen will see his next short story published in 'Analog' in the March 2014 issue. The story 'Life Flight' will appear on the cover. Brad is still pinching himself and stated, 'I've got cover prominence... alongside David Brin no less. Jerry Oltion and Karl Schroeder are on the cover too!' This is Brad's eighth story published by the magazine.
