Sidney Berger, University of Houston Director and Shakespeare Festival Founder to Retire After 4 Decades

For four decades, Sidney Berger helped aspiring stage stars rise from the University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance and ascend to professional heights. Some headed to Hollywood while others made their way to regional stages and classrooms. No matter where they went, Berger viewed each of his students as shining products of theater education at its finest.

Artist Bob Rauschenberg presented new ways of looking at life, the world and the United States through groundbreaking collages - 'Combines' - that incorporated everyday objects and assorted images of people, places and things. Random at times, and deliberate at others, each collection of items told a host of stories within a single canvas. Thanks to playwright Charles L. Mee, the artist's spirited, yet unconventional, vision was transplanted to a theater setting by New York's SITI Company in 'bobrauschenbergamerica' in 2001. Soon, Houstonians will have the opportunity to experience this unique stage production when it is presented by the University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance.

Cady Huffman to Star in WOOD at NYMF

Producers Emily Miller and New York Theatre Barn have announced that Tony Award-Winner Cady Huffman (The Producers, The Will Rogers Follies) will star in WOOD, which is an official selection of the upcoming 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Mark Medoff is Uni. Houston's New Director School & Dance

The Tony Award-winning playwright Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God and When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?) has joined the theatre faculty at the University of Houston - where he will take over the role of teaching playwriting at the UH, following in the footsteps of Edward Albee and Lanford Wilson - it has been announced by the director of the University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance, Steven Wallace.

TUTS to Honor Berger with 2007 Ruth Denney Award

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) will present its 2007 Ruth Denney Award - a Lifetime Achievement Award given annually to an individual who has been instrumental in shaping lives of young artists in Houston - to Dr. Sidney Berger, founder of the Houston Shakespeare Festival, Houston's Children's Theatre Festival, and head of the University of Houston's School of Theatre since 1969

Broadway Producer Ostrow to Teach Programs at UH

Legendary Broadway producer Stuart Ostrow -- winner of 2 Tony Awards as producer of such renowned Broadway productions as 1776, M. Holiday Family Show at Saint Clements Church

StageRight Productions is proud to present the inaugural production of what they hope will become a perennial holiday event, CLARA'S CHRISTMAS DREAMS, E. Thomalen's new adaptation of The Nutcracker, published by Baker Plays. With music by Tim Starnes and direction by Bruce Merrill, the show will begin performances on November 24th at the Theatre at Saint Clements Church, located at 423 West 46th Street.
