Ever the restless creature, Whelan uses The Day to confront her fans with the reality of who she is versus who they expect her to be.

BWW Review: ACQUANETTA at Fisher Center At Bard. Director Daniel Fish (OKLAHOMA!) Startles Again

'I know you want everything to be clear and simple' is the last chorus of the fabulous chamber opera, 'Acquanetta', about the voluptuous, B-movie actress who had a sunstorm of celebrity in the 1940s. Indeed, the narrative structure 'Acquanetta' is rather uncomplicated based on a single scene in the cult classic 'Captive Wild Women' where Acquanetta played a wild, ravishing creature surgically transmuted from an ape by a mad doctor. But 'Acquanetta''s themes are anything but simple. By fusing the essentials of cinema, opera and drama to stunning effect, 'Acquanetta' renders a mesmerizing, multi-layered contemplation of illusion and identity. Directed by Daniel Fish, who re-interpreted 'Oklahoma' (which started at Bard), 'Acquanetta' is both an amazing, technical tour-de-force and thrilling, theatrical experience.

Fish Directs ACQUANETTA At Bard SummerScape

The 2019 Bard SummerScape festival takes a contemporary look at Hollywood's Golden Age in Acquanetta, a visual and musical tour-de-force inspired by the eponymous B-movie star with a mysterious past. Combining theater, opera, and film in a haunting meditation on identity, transformation, stereotypes, and typecasting from composer and Bang on a Can co-founder Michael Gordon and his longtime collaborator, librettist Deborah Artman, Acquanetta originally premiered at the PROTOTYPE Festival, where it was a New York Times and New York magazine "Critics' Pick" and one of the New York Classical Review's "Top Ten Performances of 2018."by Daniel Fish, whose previous SummerScape staging (a revelatory new take on Oklahoma!), scoring the visionary director a 2019 Tony nomination.

BWW Review: Experience the Timeless Magic of the New Vic's THE AGING MAGICIAN

In association with Beth Morrison Projects and VisionIntoArt, The Aging Magician now celebrates its off Broadway premiere with The New 42nd Street at the New Victory Theater - a theater dedicated to providing children with quality (and usually fantastic) productions in the very heart of Times Square. The Aging Magician is a sensuous piece that is as much a feast for the mind as it is a tug to the heartstrings. It is enigmatic, almost like being lost in a Tim Burton inspired circus with a need to explain the sadness of nostalgia, mixed in with the wonder of keeping those memories alive; it is a show that is perhaps more magical to adults than to children, adults who can understand the almost ethereal pull of a past one does not wish to be gone.

Samuel Beckett's Radio Play ALL THAT FALL Among Lincoln Center's 2016 White Light Festival Lineup

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. 'I could compare my music to white light which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener.' - Arvo Part
