The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities has opened the 2017 2018 Black Box season with The Foreigner, directed by Geoffrey Kent. The Foreigner, by Larry Shue, earned two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production when first produced in 1984. The play, a farce filled with comic surprise, has become a staple of both professional and amateur theatre. The 2017 2018 Arvada Center Theatre Season is sponsored by Lutheran Medical Center.

The familiar song from the 1960's production written by Bob Merrill and Michael Stewart in their book, lyrics and music adapted from a 1950's novel titled 'Lilli' happens outside Paris, circa 1920. Carnivals and circuses played to packed audiences before World War ! and the depression, and in their enchanting story a young orphan named Lilli travels from hr past home when her father dies to search for her future, 'where everyone knows her name,' and of course, true love.

Waiting for Godot was written by Samuel Beckett, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. The play is perhaps the most iconic tragicomedy on the stage and has been described as the most significant English language play of the 20th century.

Bus Stop is written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright William Inge, known for his portraits of small-town life in America's heartland. A drama infused with comedy and honesty, the play was nominated for four Tony Awards when it opened in 1955.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. (CPM), in residence at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, goes for laughs with the musical comedy, The Addams Family in its Young Adult Series. Performances will be held on the weekends of May 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22 at 1 p.m. with one 7 p.m. show on May 14. The May 15 performance will be sign language interpreted by students of the CCBC Catonsville American Sign Language Certification program. All performances will be held in the Administration Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. in Rosedale. The Arvada Center is making a bold move with its current main-stage production. The regional premiere of END OF THE RAINBOW follows Judy Garland during a six week run in London six months before her tragic death. End of the Rainbow is written by Peter Quilter. Performances are Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Preview performances are March 21 - 23 at 7:30 p.m. Moderated talkbacks with the cast are offered on Friday, April 4 after the 7:30 p.m. show and Wednesday, April 9 after the 1:00 p.m. show. The Mousetrap directed by Pat Payne, will run in the intimate Black Box Theater January 28 - February 23, 2014.
