Marin Alsop & Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Present Gustav Holt's THE PLANETS, 11/7 & 10

Music Director Marin Alsop leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Gustav Holst's influential work The Planets onThursday, November 7 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 10 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. A women's chorus from the Baltimore Choral Arts Society will join the Orchestra from offstage to perform the tone poem's final moment, Neptune, the Mystic. Also on the program is Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, performed by Leila Josefowicz, and Leopold Stokowski's 20th century arrangement of Bach's Toccata & Fugue. Maestra Alsop kicks off the first Off the Cuff series this season with a closer look into Holst's work, exploring its present-day relevance on Friday, November 8 at 8:15 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and on Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. All four concerts will feature high-definition images from space projected onto a screen suspended above the orchestra.

Marin Alsop & Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Present WAR REQUIEM, 11/14-16

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Music Director Marin Alsop leads the BSO and the University of Maryland Concert Choir in the centerpiece of the BSO's 2013-2014 season, Britten's War Requiem on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 8 p.m. and Friday, November 15, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. The program also features soprano Tamara Wilson, tenor Nicolas Phan, bass-baritone Ryan McKinny and the Peabody Children's Chorus. Ann Hampton Callaway Joins BSO on THE STREISAND SONGBOOK, Now thru 10/13

Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly kicks off his 11th Pops season with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in The Streisand Songbook with Ann Hampton Callaway tonight, October 10 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Sunday, October 13 at 3 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. Singer-songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway will sing some of Barbra Streisand's biggest hits, including favorites from Broadway musicals as Funny Girl to film hits such as A Star is Born. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Releases Midweek Teachers' Resource Guides

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces its release of their all-new Midweek Teachers' Resource Guides for use in conjunction with the BSO's Midweek Education Concerts. The easy-to-use guides connect each Midweek Education concert to essential curricular subjects, and introduce fun, exciting and innovative ways for teachers to provide deeper learning opportunities for their students. Each guide includes musical, STEM and language arts resources for What Beethoven Heard (October 30 & 31, 2013), The Snowman (December 5 & 6, 2013), America the Beautiful (February 4 & 5, 2014) and Carnival of the Animals (February 6 & 7, 2014).Please see below for complete program details.

Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche to Remain with BSO Through 2013-14 Season

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and the Peabody Conservatory announced today that BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche will extend her appointment through the 2013-2014 season. Ms. Arrieche began her Fellowship at the start of the 2012-2013 season, receiving a full tuition scholarship to complete a one-year artist diploma program at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. Now that Ms. Arrieche has completed her degree, the fellowship has been restructured to include a larger level of commitment to conducting at the BSO.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces New Road Scholar Program

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) launches the Road Scholar program, through which participants will gain a closer look at the inner functions of the BSO. Established in 1975, Road Scholar, a national organization that facilitates educational travel programs across the world, offers participants once-in-a-lifetime experiences delivered by local and world-renowned experts. Experiences include in-depth and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities, from cultural excursions and study cruises to walking, biking and more.

The series debuted at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall last season and was wildly popular, with all of the sessions reaching capacity. The BSO will now offer the program at The Music Center at Strathmore.

Music Director Marin Alsop leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in Bernstein's Symphony No. 2, "Age of Anxiety" on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Friday, September 27, 2013 and Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. BSO Opens 2013-14 Season with Scheherazade & 1812 Overture, Sept. 20-22

Signaling the start of the social season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will hold its annual Gala Concert tonight, September 7 at 8:30 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This year's Gala will be led by BSO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly. The concert features the band Pink Martini with vocalist Storm Large, who will collaborate with the BSO for an intoxicating mix of cabaret, samba, jazz and Hollywood musicals. National Public Radio's news correspondent Ari Shapiro, a frequent guest vocalist with Pink Martini, will perform.

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses returns to the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall by popular demand withSecond Quest on Thursday, November 21 at 8 p.m. The show boasts new visuals and music exploring additional chapters from the Zelda franchise as well as the beautifully orchestrated four-movement symphony recounting the classic storylines from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. BSO Announces New 'Student Select' Ticket Initiative

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces BSO Student Select, a new discounted ticket program for college students. Starting August 26, all college students can pay $25 to purchase a BSO Student Select Card, good for admission to unlimited* concerts for the entire 2013-2014 season at both the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Md. and The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Md., as well as access to the BSO's College Nights.

BSO to Perform Season Preview Concerts, 9/7 & 11

Andrew Constantine, the BSO's popular former Associate Conductor, will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a 2013-2014 Season Preview Concert on Friday, September 6 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Thursday, September 11 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. The concert features repertoire from the new season, including compositions by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin and many more. Maestro Constantine will also serve as the evening's host, providing commentary about each work.

Timothy McAllister to Present US Premiere of John Adams's SAXOPHONE CONCERTO in Baltimore & St. Louis this Fall

This fall, concert saxophonist Timothy McAllister gives the first North American performances of John Adams's new Saxophone Concerto and records the 32-minute score for Nonesuch. McAllister performs with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop on Friday, September 20 (8 pm) at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, repeated on September 21 (8 pm) and 22 (3 pm). Then, David Robertson leads McAllister and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in Saxophone Concerto on Saturday, October 5 (8 pm) and Sunday, October 6 (3 pm) at Powell Hall. Listeners worldwide may catch a broadcast and live stream of the Oct. 5 concert at www.stlpublicradio.org. Recording sessions with Robertson and the SLSO follow in October for a future Nonesuch recording pairing Saxophone Concerto with the orchestra's performance of Adams's City Noir, which McAllister also premiered.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces Rusty Musicians for 9/18; Registration Open Now

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the much-anticipated annual Rusty Musicians with the BSO on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m. (Group 1) and 7:50 p.m. (Group 2) at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This event gives community instrumental musicians the ability to play side-by-side with a world-class orchestra. Under the direction of Music Director Marin Alsop, un-auditioned string, brass, wind and percussion instrumentalists will participate in rehearsals and perform selections from Edward Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites and Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture - Fantasy.
