Ying Quartet To Perform In Cooperstown

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival will conclude its twentieth anniversary season on Sunday, November 4 at 4pm at the Otesaga Resort Hotel with a performance by the celebrated and exuberant Ying Quartet.

The Escher String Quartet Opens Segerstrom Center's 18/19 Chamber Music Series

Segerstrom Center for the Arts launches its 2018-2019 Chamber Series with the acclaimed Escher String Quartet on November 1, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Samueli Theater. Since its founding in 2005, the quartet has quickly garnered the reputation as one of the finest young string ensembles performing today. Their instrumental interplay, which combines technical precision with warmth and vitality, has reaped accolades nationally and abroad, and elicited invitations from Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman to be the quartet-in-residence at their respective summer festivals. In a review, The Strad wrote, "…a level of individual technical precision and a collective musical purpose that is endlessly compelling … Sheer brilliance." Quartet members include Adam Barnett-Hart and Danbi Um, violins; Pierre Lapointe, viola; and Brook Speltz, cello.

Bernard Labadie Kicks Off Inaugural Season With Orchestra Of St. Luke's 10/25

For his inaugural season as Principal Conductor of Orchestra of St. Luke's, Bernard Labadie has curated a three-concert residency at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage-marking the 32nd year of the OSL series at Carnegie Hall-with a focus on the music and influence of Joseph Haydn. The first concert on Thursday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m., which pairs Haydn's "Nelson Mass" with Mozart's Requiem, K. 626 (revised and completed by Robert Levin), marks OSL's first collaboration with La Chapelle de Quebec, the choir founded and directed by Maestro Labadie. Soloists joining the ensembles on stage include soprano Lauren Snouffer, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, tenor Lothar Odinius, and bass-baritone Philippe Sly.

Tesla String Quartet Releases Debut Album Of Haydn, Ravel, And Stravinsky On Orchid Classics

On Friday, September 7, 2018, the award-winning Tesla Quartet(Ross Snyder & Michelle Lie, violins; Edwin Kaplan, viola; Serafim Smigelskiy, cello) releases its debut album, Haydn, Ravel, and Stravinsky, on Orchid Classics. The record features performances of Ravel's String Quartet in F major; Haydn's String Quartet in C major, Op.54 No.2; Stravinsky's Concertino for String Quartet; and three works by Ravel newly arranged for string quartet by Tesla violinist Ross Snyder: Menuet sur le nom d'Haydn, Menuet antique, and Menuet in C sharp minor.

The Festival choir concert at 1 PM will be conducted by Grant Gershon, the Master Chorale's Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director, and guest artist Dr. Edith A. Copley. The program for the concert includes works by Joseph Haydn, Astor Piazzolla, Paul Simon, and more. Eighty-five students have been selected by their choir directors for a prestigious Honor Choir that performs on stage during the concert.

Hugo Vera Returns To Lied Center For Spring Recital

Lawrence Opera Theatre and the Lied Center welcome back KU alum and tenor, Hugo Vera after his debut recital in the Lied Center Pavilion last year. The program, 'Music for a While,' features J. American Composers Orchestra Announces 2017-2018 Emerging Composers

American Composers Orchestra continues its commitment to the creation and development of new orchestral music with the announcement of sixteen emerging composers who will participate in its catalytic programs. Six emerging composers will participate in the 27th Annual Underwood New Music Readings on June 21-22, 2018 at a location to be announced. Ten emerging composers receive 2018 EarShot New Music Readings presented by Fort Wayne Philharmonic (February 7, 2018), Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (March 1, 2018), and Jacksonville Symphony (April 20, 2018). EarShot is a partnership between American Composers Orchestra, League of American Orchestras, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.

Orchestra Of St. Luke's Announces 2018-19 Carnegie Hall Season

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) 2018-2019 Subscription Series presented by Carnegie Hall, will open on October 25, 2018, with Bernard Labadie on the podium for his official debut as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra. Works of Haydn are the thematic thread to this 32nd Carnegie Hall subscription season and the three programs will also feature works by younger contemporaries and 20th-century composers he influenced. The program, for the first of three concerts, pairs two great masterworks of the choral repertoire, Haydn's Mass in D Minor, Hob. XXII: 11, 'Nelson Mass,' and Mozart's Requiem, K. 626.La Chapelle de Quebec, the choir founded and directed by Maestro Labadie, makes its first appearance with OSL, joined by guest soloists German tenor Lothar Odinius, French-Canadian bass-baritone Philippe Sly, and acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.  

Christian Van Horn To Perform With The Cleveland Orchestra

Carnegie Hall has announced that bass-baritone Christian Van Horn will step in for Thomas Hampson, performing with The Cleveland Orchestra on Wednesday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Mr. Hampson's doctor has advised him to withdraw from this concert due to illness. The program, which features Haydn's The Seasons, remains the same. Full program information is listed below.
