BWW Reviews: The Rep's 'Christmas Carol' Gives Gifts of Charity and Song

To capture the long standing tradition of The Milwaukee Rep's adaptation of A Christmas Carol that opened last weekend at the Historic Pabst Theater, many families or friends crowd around the grand Christmas tree adorned and standing in the center of Milwaukee's Patty and Jay Baker Theater Complex. They punch the button on their smart phones; take pictures of these memories withstanding the test of time, an annual event to be cherished. The Rep's production of A Christmas Carol has run consecutively each December for 38 years, a holiday present waiting to be opened again and again.

The Lakewood Playhouse presents the second show of their 75th anniversary season: PRIDE & PREJUDICE by Jane Austen (adapted by Joseph Hanreddy & J.R. Sullivan). The play will be performed on Fridays, Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Performances continue through December 1st, with Special Showings at 8:00pm on Thursday, November 14th (Pay What You Can Night)and 8:00pm on Thursday, November 21st, ("Pay What You Can" Actor's Benefit). A comical Tony Award-winning musical about an angst-filled spelling championship, and performances of a Jane Austen classic are among the November productions at the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University. For young audiences, TIC is staging a family musical based on a Newberry Honor Book with an anti-bullying message.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that every theatergoer is in want of a great show, and that every Jane Austen fan is in want of yet another way to enjoy her favorite love story. Austen's theatrical dialogue has inspired fan fiction novels, film adaptations, musicals, and now Sacramento Theatre Company's two-act play, fantastically written by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan to allow characters and scenes overlap in front of a lovely common room with gorgeous wooden floors.

(Sweeney Todd's music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim based on a book by Hugh Wheeler and an adaptation by Christopher Bond.Sweeney Todd was originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. It was originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean and Judy Manos.)

Utah Shakespeare Festival Announces Upcoming Season

The Utah Shakespeare Festival recently revealed its 2014 season, eight plays running from June 23 to October 18. Artistic Directors David Ivers and Brian Vaughn announced the season, which includes four plays ranging from Shakespeare classics to a Stephen Sondheim musical to a world premier adaptation of a beloved novel.

Charles Fee, Producing Artistic Director of Great Lakes Theater (GLT), unveiled an ambitious, five-production array of classics to headline the company's 2013-14 season. Great Lakes Theater's fifty-second year is scheduled to run from September 2013 through April 2014 at PlayhouseSquare's Hanna and Ohio Theatres.

Milwaukee Rep Announces A CHRISTMAS CAROL, 11/29-12/24

Now in its 37th year, The Rep's production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, sponsored by MillerCoors, is Milwaukee's beloved holiday tradition which has delighted audiences for generations at The Pabst Theater. Adapted by Joseph Hanreddy and Edward Morgan, Dickens' classic masterpiece brightens the holiday season with its beautiful carols and timeless message of hope, peace and love and the true meaning of the holidays. Milwaukee Repertory Theater is delighted to announce that Aaron Posner returns to The Rep to direct A Christmas Carol. Posner directed The Rep's To Kill a Mockingbird, which broke all-time attendance records last season, as well as the lyrical, beautifully-realized production of My Name is Asher Lev in 2010. This will be the first time that Posner has directed A Christmas Carol. This year's cast includes Milwaukee actors Marti Gobel and Jonathan Wainwright; Rep newcomers Melody Betts, Renata Friedman, Melisa Pereyra, Luigi Sottile and accomplished stage actor Christopher Donahue as Ebenezer Scrooge. Returning to The Rep this year are former Rep Artistic Intern Ensemble members Alexander Pawlowski and Emily Trask and frequent Rep guest artist Jonathan Smoots. Also rounding out the cast are Rep Associate Artists Angela Iannone and Gerard Neugent and Chicago actor Erik Hellman. A Christmas Carol runs at The Pabst Theater from November 29 - December 24.
