Casa 0101 Theatre Previews 'Story Theatre' Programs in LA, 5/3 & 4

Casa 0101 will celebrate the West Coast Premiere of PIE (Projects In Education) as two "preview" performances of its "Story Theatre" Program for Teachers, Community Leaders, PTA/PTO reps and of course children and families. These preview performances will be free and reservations are necessary. They will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 3rd and 7:00PM on Saturday, May 4th at Little Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights.

PIE Makes West Coast Debut in May

PIE (Projects In Education) had its premiere in New York City's Central Park in the summer of 1991. The programming, created by Patrick Riviere (then Artistic Director of The Emerging Artists Project, Inc.) would go on to critical acclaim and much success in the New York Tri-State area and also Chicago, Illinois. Since that time, PIE has reached thousands of children and families in schools, parks, libraries, women's shelters, children's hospitals and other venues, often sponsored by the community, Riviere's own non-profits or through grants and donations.

Casa 0101 Opens TAMALES DE PUERCO (PORK TAMALES), a Trilingual Play in English, Spanish & American Sign Language

Casa 0101 Theater, Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director, will present the play, 'Tamales De Puerco (Pork Tamales),' A Trilingual Play in English, Spanish and American Sign Language, written by Mercedes Floresislas, directed by Edward Padilla. Opening Night is tonight, April 5, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. The play will be presented in a Limited Run for four weeks from tonight, April 5 - 28, 2013 at the New Casa 0101 Theater.

Watts Village Theater and Green Dot Public Schools Create UNLockeD with Locke High School, Beg. Today

Beginning today, March 15, 2013, Green Dot Public Schools and Watts Village Theater Company will combine their talents for the second year in a row to prove how much talent is locked away within their community and how the arts can help to bring the students out of their shells and better their environment. After the success of the 2012 production of Simply Maria or the American Dream by Josefina Lopez, the team decided to raise the stakes and make yet another bold step forward with UNLockeD.

THE LAST DAYS OFJUDAS ISCARIOT Opens 3/1 at The Victory Theater

Professional Actress Dee Smith has confirmed that she is producing an AEA production of Stephen Adly Guirgis's play, THE LAST DAYS OFJUDAS ISCARIOT at The Victory Theatre in Burbank. Smith is best known for playing the role of Ellis in the Festival Film, ALL OUT, which earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Texas Black Film Festival. She also co-starred in the highly touted American Premiere of THE IMAGINARY LIFE OF THE STREET SWEEPER, AUGUST G last year at Casa 0101 Theatre in Los Angeles.

World Premiere of TRIO LOS MACHOS by Josefina Lopez Plays Now thru 7/8

Casa 0101 Theater will present the World Premiere of "Trio Los Machos," with songs made famous by the singing group, Trio Los Panchos, at the new Casa 0101 Theater, 2102 E. First Street (at Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m., tonight, June 8 - July 8, 2012.

Watts Village Theater Company Opens SIMPLY MARIA Tonight, 5/25

Tonight, May 25, Watts Village Theater Company will open its first mainstage production since Ochre & Onyx in 2009, "Simply Maria, Or The American Dream" by Josefina Lopez. The production involves collaboration between WVTC and Green Dot Public Schools, in which WVTC is professionally directing, designing and managing the production and 30 Ánimo Watts Charter High School students are participating as cast and crew. This is the first theatre production for Ánimo Watts students, who have seen their arts programs cut during these difficult economic times and have persevered through this unique partnership.

Casa 0101 & American Latino Theatre Open THE KING OF THE DESERT 1/27

Casa 0101 Theater in association with CoActive Content will present a new co-production of "The King of the Desert," written by Stacey Martino, performed by Rene Rivera, and helmed by Sal Romeo, all Lifetime Members of The Actors Studio.

Performances are at 8:00 PM on July 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 20, 31 and 2:30PM Matinees on July 18 & 25.

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES was written for the Stage and adapted for film by author Josefina Lopez, winning the Audience Award and a Special Jury Prize at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival! Funny, rich, and vibrant, Real Women Have Curves is the story of the teenage Ana, torn between mainstream ambitions, cultural heritage, her struggle for higher education, and her place as a woman in the world. This production is a hymn to family values and self esteem.
