It's quite entertaining with a stellar cast, but does it work overall?

American Stage continues its 2017-18 Season 'WE THE PEOPLE' with STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR written by Andrea Lepcio and directed by Jim Sorensen (directorial debut in St. Petersburg). Produced in association with Temple University, and now in its second year, Main Street Festivals, is a national initiative that presents annual readings of new musicals in cities across the United States over the course of a year. Temple is hosting the 2015 plays January 16 and 17 in the Randall Theatre, Temple University School of Theater, Film and Media Arts, 1301 W. I got on the phone with ThanksKilling the Musical's producer David Eck and lyricist Jordan Mann to discuss their creative process, and what excited them about mounting the show in Atlanta at Dad's Garage Theatre Company.

The November installment will feature lyricists Meghan Kelleher (songwriter), Sukari Jones (Location, Location, Location!!!), and Kathleen Wrinn (Ten: The Story of Grace and Joe) and composers Bobby Cronin (unlucky in Love, 2014 NEO writer at the York), Andy Roninson (creator of the podcast Take a Ten Musicals), and Adam Spiegel (Cloned! and a returning TUNE IN TIME champion).

On Jan 10th and 11th, Mainstreet Musicals will launch its premiere festival season with the Philadelphia /Mainstreet Festival of New Musicals - presenting three new musicals in concert readings at Temple University's Randall Theatre, 1301 West Norris St. Philadelphia, PA 19122. Mainstreet Musicals is a New York-based organization whose mission is to encourage the development of new musicals by sharing some of the finest through annual regional festivals. Submissions are evaluated by a jury of professional theatre directors. Actor John Lithgow, serving as Mainstreet's 2014 Guest Artistic Director, made the final selection and commented, "I found the quality of these pieces to be extremely high, offering abundant evidence that wonderful work is out there waiting to be discovered."

David Austin's original new musical, Finishing Arthur Danby, will receive an NYC industry reading Sunday August 3. This is the latest effort from the rising star and composer of the new musical Beaches, which received its world premier in DC earlier this year.
