Jupiter String Quartet Performs at Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Tonight, 7/29

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival continues its 14th season tonight, July 29 with the award-winning Jupiter String Quartet. The 7:30 pm concert will be held in the Louis C. Jones Center at The Farmers' Museum. They will perform works by Haydn, Bartok and Mendelssohn.

From the Top with host Christopher O'Riley, the preeminent showcase for young musicians, announces its 2012-2013 National Tour dates for recording its popular NPR radio program. The tour includes concert events at From the Top's home base at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall and cities from Beijing, China to Athens, Georgia to Davis, California. Guest artists for the season will include cellist Matt Haimovitz, as well as two professional orchestras ­- the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

Goody Goody, the American Classics resident female vocal trio of Valerie Anastasio, Mary Ann Lanier (Somerville) and Heather Peterson, with pianist Robert Humphreville, performs a unique concert saluting the popular girl groups of American popular music, from the jazzy stylings of the Boswell Sisters, the tight harmony of the Andrews Sisters, the 50s sounds of the McGuire Sisters and the Chordettes, and the classic ensembles of the 60s with the Shirelles and the Supremes, through to the Roches and solo singers like Carole King. Featured hit songs include Bei Mir Bist Du Schon, Lollipop, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?, I'll Be With You in Apple Blossom Time, On the Atcheson, Topeka, and the Santa Fe, and Baby Love. Performances are tonight, May 18 at 7:30pm at Pickman Concert Hall of the Longy School of Music, 27 Garden Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Sunday, May 20 at 3 pm at Follen Community Church, 755 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, Massachusetts.

Handel and Haydn Highlight Boston Baroque's 2012-2013 Season

Boston Baroque, America's first period-instrument orchestra, has announced its 2012-2013 concert season, running from October 19, 2012 to April 20, 2013. Music Director Martin Pearlman will conduct five programs of two performances each, taking place at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall in Boston or at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University in Cambridge. Highlights of the season will include a rarely-performed Handel comic opera, Partenope; Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass, which is slated to be recorded for later release on CD; Handel's Messiah at the holidays; and concerts that feature members of the orchestra and chorus in small ensemble and solo roles.
