On September 20, Maestro Sebastian Lang-Lessing and four-time Grammy® winner Renee Fleming will open the San Antonio Symphony's 75th Anniversary season at The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Fleming wowed the crowds at this year's Super Bowl with her extraordinary rendition of the "The Star-Spangled Banner." She will perform Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, and music from Canteloube and Delibes, in a concert complemented by sparkling works for orchestra by Strauss and Ravel. The exquisite beauty of Renee Fleming's singing of this glorious music will radiate throughout the hall at the new Tobin Center.

The New York Philharmonic will present the second season of THE ART OF THE SCORE: Film Week at the Philharmonic September 16-20, 2014, offering two concert programs of film music - La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times: The Tramp at 100 - that highlight some of the genre's most distinctive uses of music. Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 2014-15 season on September 16 with the Opening Gala Concert, La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema, with special guest Martin Scorsese, Oscar-winning director and film preservation proponent, who will deliver welcoming and introductory remarks. Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) present Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 1 on Friday, September 26 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 28 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, September 27 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. The New York Philharmonic will salute departing Principal Trumpet Philip Smith - who will step down from his position at the end of the 2013-14 season following 36 seasons of service - in A Celebration of Phil Smith, a concert featuring the New York Philharmonic Brass and Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Smith and Bramwell Tovey, July 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. The program will also include works that showcase brass: an arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Procession of the Nobles; a Horn Quartet by Gershwin; Tomasi's Liturgical Fanfares; an arrangement of The Great Gate of Kiev from Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition; and Pollack's That's a Plenty, which the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet, of which Mr. Smith was a founding member, has frequently performed as an encore on the Orchestra's tours. Philharmonic musicians will introduce the works and speak about Mr. Smith.
