The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps (LGBAC) is set to honor award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz with its 2016 Profile in Leadership Award for his outstanding musical achievements and contributions to the LGBTQ community.

Oakland, CA, April 6, 2016—The Oakland Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan have announced the 2016-2017 season, which will feature a signature mix of adventurous and wide-ranging music including a new violin concerto, a monumental choral work, a “lost” Romantic symphony, a trio as guest soloists, music from the time of the Black Panthers, an ebullient American musical theater gem and more. The six-concert season runs October 14, 2016, through May 19, 2017, at the Paramount Theatre with pre-concert talks, lobby entertainment and drinks beginning one hour before each performance. In addition, the organization has announced details of the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra's three-concert 2016-2017 season. Utah Symphony | Utah Opera today announced three additional performances and an additional soloist for its 2016 Deer Valley Music Festival.

Associate Conductor Robert Franz will lead the Houston Symphony in Superheroes at the Symphony!, a musically adventurous family concert revealing the superpowers of the orchestra's instruments at 10 and 11:30 a.m. today, March 26.

The Minnesota Orchestra today announced plans for the 2016-17 seasons of three widely varied series: Live at Orchestra Hall, Holiday Concerts, and Jazz in the Target Atrium. Live at Orchestra Hall, a series of popular music, jazz, Broadway classics, movie scores, world music and other genres, is led by Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. She conducts many of the series' concerts, including the Minnesota Orchestra debut of Twin Cities rapper-vocalist Dessa, R&B group Boyz II Men, and screenings of the films Ratatouille and Star Trek (2009), with scores performed live. Assistant Conductor Roderick Cox conducts several programs during the 2016-17 season, including two specially-designed matinee family concerts for audience members of all ages.

Australian cinematic progressive-rock singer-songwriter Ben Craven is releasing his highly anticipated third album “Last Chance To Hear”.

Two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated Michael Feinstein returns to Feinstein's at the Nikko with a special celebration of Academy Award-winning lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman for five performances only - May 18-22, 2016. Considered one of the premier interpreters of American standards, Feinstein will perform some of the Bergman's greatest songs, including 'The Way We Were,' 'Nice N' Easy,' 'A Piece of Sky,' 'How Do You Keep the Music Playing,' among others. Mesmerizing virtuoso, former child prodigy and so famous she goes by one name—Midori—joins Pacific Symphony to perform Erich Korngold's achingly beautiful Violin Concerto, which the composer reimagined from four of his acclaimed film scores. The exquisite program is led by Grammy and Juno award-winning music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Bramwell Tovey, of whom Musical America has called: “One of the most versatile and charismatic musicians in the world.” Tovey also leads the orchestra in grand and thrilling music inspired by the galaxy—Gustav Holst's dramatic interpretation of the cosmos, “The Planets,” enhanced by the voices of the women of Pacific Chorale (John Alexander, artistic director); plus, Debussy's luminous piano piece, “Clair de Lune,” orchestrated by the legendary Leopold Stokowski.
