Theater Folk Gather To Sing Irving Berlin Songs At His Home

Friends and admirers of Irving Berlin from New York's theater community--continuing a tradition they began back while Berlin was alive--recently gathered at his former home in New York City to remember him in song. They sang such Berlin classics as 'God Bless America,' 'White Christmas,' and 'Always,' complete with rarely heard verses. Berlin (1888-1989) composed the scores for 18 Broadway shows and 19 films. He wrote more standards and made more money than any of his colleagues in the Golden Aged of American Popular Music.

New York City's Institute for American Musical Theatre to Offer 2-Year Training Program for Musical Creators

New York City's Institute for American Musical Theatre has announced plans for a unique 2-year 'Creators' program. Built and run by award winning lyricist-librettist Sam Carner (Island Song, Unlock'd), the new intensive and highly collaborative training will be guided by a faculty including composer-lyricist Adam Gwon (Ordinary Days, Scotland PA, String), composer-lyricist Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop, Teeth, White Girl in Danger), composer Anna K. Jacobs (Pop, Teeth), director Lonny Price (A Class Act, Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, Company, Sweeney Todd), composer Derek Gregor (Island Song, Unlock'd), music supervisor Brad Haak (Mary Poppins, Daddy Long Legs), director Marlo Hunter (American Reject, Saved By the Bell: the Musical), musical director Andy Collopy (Lightning Thief), and other Broadway professionals still being confirmed.

The Players Presents A Pipe Night Honoring Joe Iconis On Monday

The Players announces its next Pipe Night, honoring Tony Award-nominated composer and writer Joe Iconis (Be More Chill). A favorite Players tradition that has celebrated significant cultural figures for over a century, the Pipe Night for Mr. Iconis will be held on Monday, September 9th starting at 6:30 pm at The Players, located at 16 Gramercy Park South.

Two-time Drama Desk nominated writer and performer Joe Iconis will sit down for a live podcast event and performance with actress and Little Known Facts podcast host Ilana Levine on November 18th at 6:00 pm. Throughout the evening little known facts will be revealed as Joe and Ilana discuss the real side of what it is to pursue a career in the arts. Be More Chill fans can expect to hear first-hand the remarkable journey of the show- from a social media sensation to a new Broadway musical! Keen Company's Presents Fourth Musical First NY Revival of Adam Gwon's ORDINARY DAYS

Opening Night is set for Wednesday, October 17th for Keen Company's fourth musical, the first NY revival of Adam Gwon's acclaimed Ordinary Days, directed by Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein. Whitney Bashor (The Bridges of Madison County), Marc delaCruz (If/Then), Sarah Lynn Marion (2013 Jimmy awards winner), and Kyle Sherman (Pete the Cat) star.  This limited Off-Broadway engagement will continue through November 17th only.

The American Theatre Wing's Jonathan Larson and MAC's John Wallowitch Award-winning songwriter Joel B. New presents an eclectic evening of his songs at The Green Room 42 on Saturday, October 6th at 9:30pm. Along with a lineup of singers from Broadway and beyond -- including Madge Dietrich (Kinky Boots), CK Edwards (Shuffle Along), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Women On The Verge…), Victoria Huston-Elem (Finding Neverland), Travis Kent (Disaster!), Richard Riaz Yoder (Hello, Dolly!), Ben Roseberry (Gentleman's Guide…), Hansel Tan (The Four Immigrants), and Michael Winther (Fun Home) -- New will perform highlights from his diverse collection of projects, many of which appear on his forthcoming sophomore album, sardonically entitled Joel B.
